Pearsall's Maureen: Great vintage ladies jumper knitting pattern from 1940s. This little gem is knitted in rayon, which was a soft yarn with a soft shine and was also known as 'art silk' Each hank would have been 2oz (60g) The tension was the same as a modern 4ply - so a 4ply shiny yarn, or silk would be nice but also can be knitted in any 4ply, but always work a tension square. To fit 36 inch bust. This pattern has pictures of other available at that time - interesting

Pearsalls 365: Great vintage cable jumper knitting pattern from 1940s, This neat little jumper has short sleeves and fastens with 4 small buttons at back of neck. Knitted originally in a rayon yarn (art silk) but try a modern 4ply wool, silk, or cotton. To fit 34 inch chest. Nice easy design. Shoulder pads can be used if liked.

Pearsall's 388: Great vintage ladies jumper knitting pattern from 1940s. This design known as Elizabeth is to fit 32 inch bust and knitted in a rayon (shiny synthetic yarn) especially designed for a teenager. Pretty bows adorn the front, very trendy at the time, padded shoulder give sophisticated chic. Always work a tension square. Knits to a 4ply yarn.

Pearsall's 396: Ladies super knitting pattern for vintage evening jacket from 1940s. This little coat is to fit 34-37 inch bust and is know as a bridge coatee! Always work a tension square and try modern 4ply. This one has shoulder pads, these can be knitted, bought or made from some soft filling and silk or cotton cover.

Penelope 627: Great vintage ladies button through cardigan from 1930s. This pattern is to fit 34 inch bust. Neat and charming, the pattern describes - and it is indeed that. Knitted in a vintage 2ply that in fact was nearer our modern 4ply, so work a tension square and change needles if needed, sits on the waist.

This lovely design has instructions for both and is knitted in a vintage 3ply that should be similer to a modern 4ply. Always work a tension square. Thejumper is in two colours and has short sleeves, the bolero has long sleeves. Colour suggest are blue and maroon.

Round neck, pretty diamond panel design and short sleeves with shoulder pads. To fit 34 inch bust. This one has crocheted buttons and fastened at the left shoulder.

Penelope 1275: Great vintage ladies short sleeved bolero knitting pattern 1940s.  Instructions for nice dressy bolero in chenille type yarn - you can get similar now a days or any velvety fancy yarn that will knit 4.5 stitches to one inch on no 9 needles (3.75mm) this one even has shoulder pads, but these can be omitted. To fit 32-34 inch bust.

Penelope M1292: Lovely vintage 1940s knitting pattern for cardigan, buttons made from crochet, very pretty pattern. To fit bust 30". Up the size of needles to get a larger size, but remember to allow for more wool, worked in vintage 3ply so try modern 4ply or this size or double knitting for a 32" nice easy effective pattern.

Penelope 1298: Great vintage knitting pattern for ladies jumper with short sleeves and neck bow, very retro! 1940's at its best, even in  a stunning green so popular now in 2009, nearly 70 years later. ALWAYS KNIT A TENSION SQUARE To fit 32"-34" bust knitted in a vintage 3ply, so would work in modern 4ply and possible if knitted on 10's and 8's (imperial size- old) needles it would be a size bigger. Fancy rib design.

Penelope M1328: Great vintage ladies long line cardigan knitting pattern 1940. This pattern has instructions for a lovely long line, waisted jacket with big buttons. Knitted in modern 4ply to fit 34 inch bust, this style gives a slimming effect and is elegant as well as really retro. Always work a tension square.

Penelope K1381: So pretty vintage knitting pattern ladies Tyrolean style jacket 1940s. This style was so popular in the late 1940s, simple to do and decorate with bright embroidery thread or canvas wool. This jacket fits neatly at the waist and at the shoulder, giving the crisp lines so typical of the era. To fit 34 inch bust. Kwiknit wool was a well rounded double knit almost an Aran - the tension is 1 pattern to 2 inches (unpressed) A pattern is 16 rows knitted on old 7 and 10 imperial needles.

This cardigan is knitted in a yarn that would be similar to to full double knitting or a not to thick Aran. To fit 36 inch bust.
