The jumper pattern is to fit 34-36 inch bust and is in a ply which would have knitted as a modern 4ply - try a merino wool in navy, khaki, olive green, grey airforce blue etc. Very basic but at the time much needed. Great for re-enactment and period week ends.

LSS-39-Glenda: Great vintage ladies cable polo neck jumper knitting pattern from 1939. This wonderful pattern is to fit 34-36 inch bust and there are mittens and socks to match. The secret to this little set is that the cables are knitted separately and sewn on when the garment is finished. Jumper is nicely shaped and the gloves have weather proof gauntlets, the socks are neat and cosy. Knitted in 4ply, but always work a tension square. Colour suggest for this set are Green as a base with rust, brown and beige. This jumper set can be kitted with the cables being added.

A cheerful yellow was chosen for the original - obviously before coloured wool became difficult to get! To fit 34-36 inch bust and knitted in a thicker wool that would be similar to modern double knitting. Always work a tension square.

LSS-39-Patricia: Fabulous ladies vintage knitting pattern for a jumper coat from 1939. This interesting jumper has the appearance of a waistcoat. The original was knitted in cherry and grey 4ply wool. Always work a tension square and change needles to get ideal tension. The scarf is knitted separately. There is a knitted belt with a buckle and those lovely large buttons. Easy to knit rib pattern - I love this pattern as it evokes the very essence of wartime knitting in the UK.

LSS-39-Vanda: Great vintage ladies jumper trimmed with bobbles from 1939. This super pattern can be knitted in a modern 4ply, but do work a tension square. The original was in a blue with lime green and maple red bobbles or berries. Pretty gather sleeve heads and interesting yoke. To fit 32-34 inch bust. The bobbles are crochet, but they are simple to make and if you can knit bobbles they could be used instead.

LSS-39-Elspeth: Great vintage little Vestee knitting pattern from 1939. This vestee, an insert to wear under costume or suit jacket to save money on making a full jumper is knitted in 3ply crepe wool or cotton yarn with a 8 stitches to an inch tension. 4ply could be used on a size smaller needles as there are no bust requirements. It will measure 15 inches from shoulder to shoulder and 17 inches long. It has a pretty petal collar and could be decorated with pearls down the front for a dressier look.

LTS 61: Great vintage ladies twinset knitting pattern 1940s. This pattern is in a weave design and has a lovely deep welt and nice square shoulders for that touch of elegant vintages. Knitted in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply and change needles if needed. To fit 34 inch bust. Jumper has short sleeves, but as the cardigan has long sleeves it is easy to make the jumper with long sleeves or the cardigan with short sleeves for the summer - increases your choices. Great pattern.

Lux39-2Dress: Great vintage ladies knitting pattern for dress in two parts from 1939. This super dress knitted as jumper and skirt is actually reversible with a small cable in the stripe, when revered the cable becomes a garter stitch square. Knitted in a crepe style of yarn to give firmness and less likely hood of stretching this set is very retro but easily fashionable for modern wear. The jumper has a panel at the yoke and a straight neckline. To fit 36 inch bust, 30 inch waist and 39 inch hips. So nice easy measurements. Try a fine 4ply for this slimming set.

Lux39-8Dress: Great vintage ladies knitting pattern for slim fitting dress from 1939. This lovely pattern has panels of leaf design giving a slimming look. Knitted in a bouclé yarn and fine needles for good fit. You could try a fine 4ply for this one, always work a tension square. To fit 34 inch bust, 26 inch waist and 37 inch hips. I you use a pure wool like merino not only will the dress be soft and figure moulding it will give a slight stretch to the measurements. A wool blend would work well too. This easy to knit 'eve of the war' bolero is to fit 34 inch bust and knitted in 3ply for a fine and elegant evening jacket in bolero style. Trimmed with angora and covered buttons in the same yarn. Knitted in garter stitch (plain knitting) in what is called an Eaton style jacket this pattern is so easy and so very retro.

MTE-9Suit: Great vintage ladies knitting pattern for ladies suit from 1940s. This easy to knit suit is worked in panels, so very little shaping. It is knitted in bouclé wool, try a fine double knitting for this one. Always work a tension square and change needles if needed. To fit 34 inch bust, hips 36. The skirt is easy to make a bit wider as it is knitted in two straight panels. Once you can see how many stitches your yarn produces you can add extra stitches to increase inches at the hips. The jacket is again worked panels which are then sewn together with detailed instruction on making up.

MTE-13 Evening Dress: Stunning vintage knitting pattern for ladies lace evening dress from early 1940s. This dress is to fit 34 inch bust , dress length adjustable. This one is so easy to knit. the top is two rectangles of pattern knitting with ribbon pulling together in a halter neck and lace edge décolletage. The bodice is sewn to the skirt.
