Bestway 1721: Great cardigan knitting pattern with fair isle border to match the jumper above - at last, been trying to find this one for a while. I like to get the twin sets together when I can. This is from the 1940's and is knitted in vintage 3ply so try modern 4ply in a tension square and change needles if needed. It actually says in the instructions, if you use 8 (4mm) needles it will knit up to 43" bust! The actual pattern calls for size 11 (3mm) and 13 (2.25mm) for the ribs. LARGER SIZE matches jumper above - Bestway 1720

Cotton Jumper 95: Great vintage 1920s ladies jumper knitting pattern. Super pattern with two designs to be knitted in cotton no5 and no30 and no20 on size 12 needles (2.75mm). There are instructions for the collared blouse which should fit 40-44 inch bust and the button through jumper for about 32-33 inch bust, but both should be easy to adjust to most sizes as it gives clues how to do this in the text. There are line drawings of pieces so that it can be planned as a smaller or large size. Fascinating pattern with French origins, but written in English.

Patons 494L: Great vintage ladies cable panel twin set knitting pattern 1940s. This one is very smart with cable ropes at front and at neck and sleeve edges of the jumper. Knitted in vintage crepe which was a tight twisted yarn that knitted to a tension just between modern 3ply and 4ply - work a tension square in the yarn that you choose and change needles to get the correct size. SS22-19-FF: Super vintage knitting pattern for slimming dress for the fuller figure from 1940s. This well shaped dress has an interesting neck line and well shaped skirt to give slimming lines and a lovely fit. Knitted in bouclé for that firm fabric on fine needles to fit 39-41 inch bust and 41-43 inch hips. Try a tension square with a 4ply with bouclé or ordinary wool. A pure wool or wool blend works best with these older patterns as the 'give ' in them is already allowed in the pattern.
