Bairnswear 1245: Great vintage knitting pattern for little children's fair isle gloves from 1930s. This pattern has instructions for the ones shown on the front to fit 3-4 and 4-5 years and another pair of gloves as well as mittens in different fair designs to fit 5-6 and 6-7 years. Knitted in a vintage 3ply wool that might well be similar to a modern 4ply - they are knitted in fine needles to give a close chill resisting fabric. Knitted in 4 needles. Always work a tension square.

Bairnswear 1283: Great vintage girl's fair isle bonnet and boys helmet knitting pattern from 1930s. The one shown on the front is to fit 2-3 years, there is another one with a brim to fit 1-2 years and simpler bonnet with fair isle brim to fit 1-2 years and a peaked helmet for a boy of 2-3 years. All are knitted in baby wool or vintage 3ply so try modern 4ply in a tension square.

Bairnswear 1266: Great vintage baby fair isle beret knitting pattern 1940s. This pattern has instructions for three different designs all knitted on 4 needles or a circular needle in vintage 3ply so try modern 4ply. This one on the cover is called Peony, there is also one called peacock and Jay. Headband 19 inches.

Bairnswear 1372: Great vintage hat and scarf set one in fair isle from the 1940s. There are two sets in this pattern, the plain ridge set as shown with tassel and fringed scarf - so easy to knit and the other one is pictured at the side. It has Dutch bonnet, mittens and a scarf with dancers on the edges, very retro and very pretty. Knitted in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply.

Bairnswear 1389: Super vintage knitting pattern for golly intarsia hat and scarf set 1940s. This adorable pattern is so retro with golly motifs on the scarf, mittens and hat with long point and tassel - super Christmas gift this one. Also a fancy rib set with pull on hat. To fit 2-3 years old worked in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply. Try modern 3ply for smaller size or double knitting for larger size - but if you do this allow at least twice as much yarn.

This one has a fabulous cat on a sleigh design on the scarf edge, pull on hat and the mittens are in two colours this one is knitted in 2 needles . Bestway 1234CH: Great vintage child's Fair Isle beret and cap knitting pattern from 1940s wartime. This pattern is designed to fit 4-6 years. There is a lovely beret and simple little cap. Knitted on two needles. The Beret measures 13 inches round head band but will stretch to 20 inches easily. Knitted in vintage 3ply so try modern 4ply. The Juliet cap measures about 18 inches round band and is 4.5 inches from top to outside edge. Great Christmas present as they are both quite fashionable at the moment!

Bestway 1252: Great vintage child's mitten knitting pattern with fair isle 1930s. This little pattern is from the late 1930s into the early years of the war and has a lovely pair of mittens with a fair isle motif of a cat, and cross stitch in simple fair isle and two pairs with simple embroidery. To fit 18 moths to 4 years worked on two needles and in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply and change needles if needed. work in modern 3ply for slightly smaller versions.

Bestway 1508CH: Lovely beret and gloves design from the 1930's.  The beret measures 9.5 inches across the crown and 15.5 inches around the head band. The gloves 9 inches from tip of middle finger to wrist edge of cuff. Knitted in vintage 3ply so try modern 4ply for a better fit as old 3ply was similar to modern 4ply. It says this should fit an 8 year old - depends on how big an eight year old head is!

Bestway 1568: Fabulous vintage knitting pattern for girl's beret and gloves from the very early 1940's as the war began to have an effect on wool. Most wool supplies were being used for the military and it was difficult to get yarn and it was rationed, especially in good colours - so unpicking and recycling got under way and gave rise to an increase in beautiful fair isle patterns. These small, beautiful patterns are difficult to get in such a lovely condition as they were well used and passed round families. This one is in lovely condition, clean and bright. The beret and gloves are knitted in vintage 3ply so will come up better to size in modern 4ply, also a better range of colours available. Beret expanding to 23 inches.

Bestway 1661: Great vintage fair isle mitten knitting pattern for child 1930s. These are to fit 2-4 years and worked in simple fair isle and vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply. Great as stocking fillers or winter birthday gift as well as those stalls at Christmas bazaars.

Bestway1680: Great vintage knitting pattern for Fair Isle berets to fit 1-2 years 1940s. Two beautiful designs worked, 8.5" across crown. Knitted in vintage 3ply so try modern 4ply. late 1930's One is in suggested colours are natural as base with mauve, yellow, green, brown. The other one top right suggested natural base with yellow, red, blue and green. Both are worked on 4 needles.

This Pattern has instructions for  a beret, a scarf and mittens all with a a skier motif. to fit 13-15 years knitted in knitted in 3ply, always work a tension square and try modern 4ply for this one. Be different on the slopes in January! Retro is the  'in' thing!

Bestway 1804: Another pretty vintage knitting pattern for a young girls fair isle bonnets. Pattern from the late 1930's for two different Dutch bonnets, one with turn back the other with all over design. To fit 6-12 years - great for those re-enactment weekends on chilly days. Worked in vintage 3ply so try modern 4ply in a tension square. The all over design is in stone with blue and red design. The other one has stone ground with navy blue flowers and red centres with green leaves. No chart for these.

Bestway 1827CH: I love this one! Oodles of Poodles! Great fair isle knitting pattern for beret and gloves to 5-6 year old. From late 1930's The band of the beret will comfortable expand to 18 inches. for the smaller size use a smaller needle, an even larger size can be made by casting on more stitches and working an extra poodle design giving an extra 2 inches. All sizes and measurement in the pattern. Knitted on two needles in vintage 3ply try modern 4ply or stick to the 3ply if you would like a baby size. This design has little poodles marching round the hat and the centre of the gloves.

Bestway 1841CH: Great vintage knitting pattern for girls Dutch bonnets in fair isle for little girls 2-6 and 13 years old. Three different sizes knitted in vintage 3ply, try modern 4ply.From late 1930's The older two have a fair isle back panel. Measurements round face 2 years = 13"  7" front to back. 6 years = 14.5" round face  and 13 years old= 17" round face. Nice easy border patterns.

Worked in vintage 3ply, so make tension square and see if you need to change needles or use modern 4ply for size needed. 13" round head stretching to 19" colour suggested fawn base with light blue, mid blue and royal blue, scarlet, emerald green, tan and dusky pink, dark green and brick red, heliotrope, navy and yellow - should look stunning - or you could just do it in a base colour and a contrast - or shades of a contrast.

Another, later, pattern for the above set Fair Isle berets Bestway 1861 this one is from the 1940s and is for 2-3 year olds about 9.5 inches across crown. Knitted on 4 needles. Two designs, top one suggests natural for base with red and blue.  The bottom one suggests stone base colour with green, yellow and brown.

Lovely selection of hats for 2-12 years old, good size range with 4 different styles. 2-4 years:- round face 13.75 inches, front to back 5.5 inches. 4-6 years:- round face 13.75 and 5.75 inches front to back. 8-10 years:- 15.25 inches round face and 6.25 inches front to back. 10-12 years:- 16.25 inches round face and 6.25 inches front to back. Bestway A2606: Great vintage knitting pattern for a bonnet with fair isle band a pretty fair isle back panel. From the 1940's. There are two designs in this one the other one is a much simpler style of fair isle. These were often known as Norwegian or Dutch bonnets. Worked in vintage 4ply so try modern double knitting for the main  bonnet, the inset one is in vintage 3ply so try modern 4ply for that one. Colours suggested are blue and white for the main one, although red and white would look stunning! and brown and white for the one below. Navy and white would look good too.

Bestway 2705. Here we have a stunning vintage baby bonnet pattern for that really retro look! This pattern is in super condition and the bonnets will fit 12 to 24 months in 3ply. If knitted in pure new 3ply wool they will come up a little smaller and fit from 6 months (depending on babies head size!)  I have knitted them in 2ply modern pure new wool and they fitted a new born. This issue from the 1940's was reissued several times in 1950's - you can see why it was so popular - fabulous pattern.

Bestway B2847: Beautiful vintage knitting pattern for little girls Dutch bonnet with fair isle bands and mittens to match. To fit 2-3 years worked in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply in a tension square. Try in double knitting on larger needles for a bigger size, but allow a bit more yarn if you do this, or work on a size smaller needles and modern 3ply for smaller version.

Bestway A2889: A great vintage knitting pattern for child's pirate hat or French cap as it was often called from the 1940's. This one is to fit 3-5 years with gloves to match, there is a button under the chin and a pom-pom at the end. Worked in vintage 3ply so try modern 4ply for this size, work a tensions square and see if you need to change needles as well. Work in modern 3ply for a smaller size. You could always just work in stripes as an alternative, which would also be in keeping with the era.
