Knitted in a 4ply that would be the same today to fit 34-36 inch chest. Neat and easy to knit in a large brick stitch. Always work a tension square.

Suggestions fro different linen collars or scarves to decorate the neck line included. To fit a 34 inch bust. Always work a tension square. C42-5037 Cardigan: Great vintage ladies knitting pattern for a cardigan from 1940s. This lovely pattern has twisted rib at waist and unusual band design up front up to a small v neck. With three quarter sleeves, which can be made longer, add an extra ball of wool for this. The cardigan is to fit 34-36 inch chest and is knitted in vintage 3ply which may knit well to a modern fine 4ply like Merino wool. Work a tension square and adjust needle size if needed.

C24-5038 Slipover: Great vintage ladies slipover knitting pattern from 1940s. This super little slipover has a myriad of buttons down the sides and at the shoulder. It has a beautiful fit and is knitted in a stitch similar to cable but without using a cable needle. Always work a tension square and try a fine 4ply merino with this one To fit 34 inch bust..

C42-5041Jumper: Great vintage ladies jumper and cardigan knitting pattern from 1940s. The jumper had buttons above the wonderfully deep rib, neat little bib for the small buttons and short sleeves, with tiny shoulder pads. To fit 36 inch bust. The cardigan has a lovely shapes and had a broad rib detail at shoulder. Again lots of lovely buttons, to fit 34 inch bust. See Ebay for beautiful vintage buttons. Neat and smart to fit 34-36 bust knitted in a bouclé 4ply. Clarice 9: This pretty jumper has short sleeves and an embroidered yoke. It is knitted in a thick 4ply or fine double knitting. Copleys 984: Great vintage ladies suit knitting pattern 1930s. This stunning suit, including jacket and skirt is worked in modern 4ply, but work a tension square before you start and change needles if needed to get the correct tension for size. The fabric needs to be firm but flexible, you could try using double knitting but as this ply was not available at that time it is more likely to be nearer our modern 4ply. There were were wools like 'speed-knit' which fell between the two, similar to the 1950s quicker-knit - so try and see which one will suit your tension.

Copleys 1170-21w2: Great vintage ladies polo neck knitting pattern for the Service Girl 1940s. This pattern is in a book designed for the young ladies in the various services during World War 2. This jumper is knitted in vintage 3ply that knits as modern 4ply and is to fit 33-34 inch bust. Simple rib, with neat yoke. Use larger needle size for large jumper, but allow more wool if you do this.

Copleys 1271: Great vintage ladies jumper knitting pattern from late 1930s. Knitted in cotton bouclet, great for the warmer summer days, two designs. They are sleeveless so will wear nicely under a jacket. To fit 34 inch bust, the ply would probably have been similar to a modern 4ply. Always work a tension square.

Copleys 1382: Great vintage ladies skirt knitting pattern 1940s. Note the shorter length as wool was rationed it changed fashions as all fabric was on coupons, so skirts got shorter, blouses tighter! And a lot of short sleeved tops and reworked wool. There are 4 styles in this pattern. To fit 36-38 inch hips. Skirts 1 and 3 are knitted on a circular needle. All in vintage 4ply, so try modern double knitting in a tension square.

Copleys 1524L: Fabulous ladies vintage jumper cardigan knitting pattern 1940s. To fit 34 inch bust, easy to make larger by changing ply or needles, but do allow more yarn if you do this (look on a similar double knitting one to get the amount of yarn needed then ad a ball to be on the safe side)The jumper in this twin set is stunning, but quite easy to knit a basic 4 row pattern after the V design of the welt, the sleeves can be made a little shorter if liked. Cardigan is elegant and slimming. Worked in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply.

Lovely styling with shaped waist with cabling. Worked in vintage 2ply which would work out as modern 3ply, you could also try modern 4ply, but if you use this then allow a little more yarn. Copleys 1770: Great vintage ladies military style jacket from 1940s. This is a super pattern with style and superb tailored fit. The double breasted look was very popular at the time and shaping on this one is stunning. Knitted in vintage 3ply so try modern 4ply, thus not so bulky as later double knitting versions. Always work a tension square. Three quarter or long sleeves included, shoulder pads were worn if desired. Two size needles are used in alternate rows, very interesting design for those who would like to try something different.

Copleys 1858: Great vintage ladies dress knitting pattern from 1940s. This smooth line and simple design is very slimming and give emphasis to waist. Knitted in vintage 3ply, so try modern 3ply or if 4ply, try superfine merino and a change of needles. To fit 34 inch bust and 36-38 inch hips. Belt included and closes with press studs. Remember there is a certain amount of give in pure wool so slightly bigger figure will be fine. Easy to make bigger work in 4ply and a size larger needles, always allow more wool if you do this. Knitted in vintage 2ply, so this would be modern 3ply. Always work a tension square and change needles or ply if needed. Bust size 34 inches.

Copleys 1890: Great vintage ladies jacket and cap in Viennese style from the 1940s. To fit 34-35 inch bust and worked in thick wool that should knit to double knitting ply. Always work a tension square. Knitted in bobble stitch and embroidered with little flowers, very pretty and so popular throughout the 1930s and 40s.

Cotton Jumper 95: Great vintage 1920s ladies jumper knitting pattern. Super pattern with two designs to be knitted in cotton no5 and no30  and no20 on  size 12 needles (2.75mm). There are instructions for the collared blouse which should fit 40-44 inch bust and the button through jumper for about 32-33 inch bust, but both should be easy to adjust to most sizes as it gives clues how to do this in the text. There are line drawings of pieces so that it can be planned as a smaller or large size. Fascinating pattern with French origins, but written in English.

Craftwear 01: Great vintage jewellery knitting crochet pattern 1940s. There are instructions for KNITTING the Necklet as shown on cover plus a two row chocker, and in CROCHET instructions for bracelet, earnings, brooch, belt and serviette ring. The pattern give quantities in yards, but you can work out how much to use of which ever thread you choose as soon as you have worked one of two things, no tension given, but it looks as if the craft cord would have been about cotton 20 as size 13 (2.25mm) needles are used in the knitting and size 0 crochet hook (not sure of the modern hook size).
