vintage ladies cardigan knittin pattern from 1940s WB111: Great vintage ladies cardigan knitting pattern from 1930s. This super sports jacket in a chunky cable is to fit 32 and 36 inch bust and is knitted in a yarn that would be similar to an Aran by looking at the needles size. But work a tension square in the yarn that you choose to see how many stitches you get. Lovely shape and super button. Back has love pictures of other patterns that would have been available at the time.

WB 255: Great vintage ladies jumper knitting pattern from 1930s. This design has a round yoke and a cable motif on main part and sleeve - super buttons at shoulder. To fit 32 inch bust knitted in a thicker wool on larger needles. This yarn would be similar to an Aran or not too thick chunky - you will need a yarn that has 4 stitches to an inch (8st to 5cm) and is knitted in 8 and 4 imperial or 44mm and 6mm.

WB 381: Great vintage knitting pattern for ladies skating dress from 1936. How splendid is this? A fabulous pattern for a full skirted, short skating dress - I remember Ginger Rogers wearing one similar in a film from the 1930s!The high neck and tassel ties is so very of the era, the top fastens with a zip, but buttons could be substituted quite easily. To fit a 32 inch bust, waist 25, knitted in double knitting using a pair of needles and a circular needle (a flexible knitting needle)

This style was very popular and this one is of he Tyrolean style with embroidery to bring out the detail of the pattern. To fit 34-36 inch bust. White with blue embroidery was used for the original.

Ladies vintage knitting pattern for cardigan with embroidery

Weldons 204: Great vintage ladies cardigan knitting pattern from 1940s. This one can be left plain or embroidered as shown. To fit 35-36 inch bust worked in a 3ply, but try a fine 4ply in a tension square if you prefer. Nicely fitted with deep rib and a selection 6 embroidery motifs included as shown on the front with seed beads could be used for centre rather than the French knots. There are two further design ideas where yoke is embroidered simple V stitches called a 'flight of spitfires' (fly stitch) and anther idea of boarder down front button band worked in blanket stitch and French knots, repeated at cuffs. The main cable pattern is worked then embroidered with bright wool to create the effect, very popular during the 1940s. Hand crochet buttons too. Worked in a tension to suit modern 4ply, but always work a tension square. To fit 34-35 inch bust, the model is wearing shoulder pads. I have other Tyrolean styles in the main ladies. section. Weldons 287: Great vintage ladies long line jacket knitting pattern from 1940s. This design is to fit 33-34 inch bust. Knitted in an Aran thickness that at the time was compared to two thickness of 4ply (which was double knitting in those days) to give a tension of 5st to an inch on size 6 needles (5mm) Again it is stated that there was 98 yards to 2oz hank (89 metre to 60g) Try two strands of wool if you cannot find an aran or thick double knitting. The pattern is a twisted stitch. The colour is worked in a darning embroidery if required - very easy to knit. Love the big buttons.

Weldons 290: Great vintage ladies smart jumper knitting pattern from 1940s. This pretty wartime jumper is knitted in cable design in a new thickness of wool. The pattern describes the yarn as the thickness of two 3ply strands together which would have been similar to modern double knitting or a light Aran. I took 2oz hanks of around 144 yards each. This is one of the few patterns from this era to note the yardage (131metres to 60g) this is only approximate. To fit 34-38 inch bust with neat v neck. Always work a tension square.

The big, bold collar, the bright check and fitted style and a way to make clothes live through several incarnations. This one can be worn either way round as shown. Knitted in a 4ply, suggested colours were navy and white. To fit 37 inch bust. This one is for those with a bit of knitting experience as the process of making the checks is a bit involved. To fit 34 inch bust and has 3 little buttons to close at back, knitted in vintage 3ply that will probably knit to modern 4ply as this is the size needles indicated.

This lovely wartime design has optional embroidered pocket on the jumper and embroidered emblem on the fronts of the cardigan, instructions for the embroidery given. but this set looks lovely with out the added embellishments if you don't like sewing. To fit 34 inch bust and knitted in modern 4ply, Always work a tension square and change needles if needed.

This lovely wartime design has a slash neck and an option for long or short sleeves and would look great with small shoulder pads. Easy to knit, originally worked in vintage 3ply so try modern fine 4ply to fit 34-36 inch bust. Always work a tension square.

Weldons 354L: Great vintage ladies jumper knitting pattern from 1940s. This lovely wartime design has has a small collar and cables at shoulders and sleeve tops. Nice slim fitting with option of long or short sleeves. Knitted in vintage 3ply, but try modern fine merino 4ply for this one or a modern synthetic, always work a tension square. To fit 35 inch bust, change needles up for a slightly bigger size, but if you do that add an extra ball of wool just in case.
