Angora 03 Beret: Great vintage little girl's beret knitting pattern from 1940s. This little beret is knitted in angora, but can also be knitted in any 4ply. 18 inches all round head band when stretched. There are also instructions for a ladies cravat style scarf.

Pattern has instructions for lovely winter set shown - worked in a variegated yarn, there are plenty on the market today, or you can use a plain colour or ad rows of colour. It calls for 2ply Shetland - this yarn knits to a modern 4ply. 4 needles needed for the socks.

Bairnswear 171: Great vintage girl's knitting pattern for various hoods from 1930s. This pattern has instructions for 4 different hoods - see pictures below to fit 3-7 years knitted in a variety of yarns. You get all four in the one pattern. the one on the right shows the one with the tartan look and is knitted in modern 4ply, with gloves and ties and should fit 5-6 years. The hood has a button neck and is to fit 6-7 years. The other hood is for  3-4 years in  vintage angora so try modern 4ply angora. The helmet is to fit for  4-5 years .

Bairnswear 172: Vintage knitting pattern for hoods and gauntlet gloves, just right for this winter, 1930s. This style of hood is so practical and retro fashion is so in at the moment, knits up quickly as well. This pattern has this one and three other hoods, two with scarf ties, as well as gloves to match. All the gloves in this pattern book are knitted on 4 needles (or circular needle). To fit girls 8-12 years, use thicker wool and large needles to make large sizes, even adults! One set it knitted in vintage 4ply - similar to modern double knitting, the others are knitted in vintage 3ply similar to modern 4ply. Always work a tension square.

Bairnswear 1372: Great vintage hat and scarf set one in fair isle from the 1940s. There are two sets in this pattern, the plain ridge set as shown with tassel and fringed scarf - so easy to knit and the other one is pictured at the side. It has Dutch bonnet, mittens and a scarf with dancers on the edges, very retro and very pretty. Knitted in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply.

Bairnswear 1425: Great vintage balaclava and pull on hats for children from 1930s. This pattern shows the 1930s version of the one below. These are worked in 4ply, but always work a tension square first. The yarn was referred to Thicker because it was thicker than baby wool. The helmets are to fit 2-3, 3-4, 4-5, 5-6, 6-7, 7-8,8-10 and 10-12years. The pull on hat with pompoms 2-4, 6-8, 8-10 and 12-14. The gathered top allows pony tail or pig tail to be free.

Bairnswear 1456: Great vintage baby bonnets knitting pattern 1930s. This lovely pattern is from the late 1930s and has instructions for 3 different styles little wheel sided bonnet with cable detail to fit 13 inches round face, tassel French cap to fit 14 inches round face and the bonnet with brim to fit 14 round face. Try modern double knitting for these little beauties in a tension square and change needles or ply if needed.

Bestway116-Norwegian Bonnet: Great vintage knitting pattern for a child's fair isle bonnet from 1940s.This close fitting bonnet should fit four to six years and is neat and very fashionable this year. The original was worked in red and white, very Christmassy. The top and back are knitted in one panel of rib so this fits really well with neat strap under chin worked in double knitting wool. Try 4ply for a smaller one for younger girl.

Bestway 140: Great vintage knitting pattern for late 1930s for pixie hoods for young children knitted in vintage 3ply which is nearer modern 4ply. There is a baby size 1-2 years, one to fit a 4 year old and and one to fit 4-5 years. This is the same pattern as 640 but has an extra pattern in for baby.

Bestway 640: Great vintage girl's knitted hood pattern from 1940s. This little wartime pattern has instructions for this little hood in blackberry stitch and the plain ridge one below. Both button under the chin and are suitable for little boys or girls about 3-5 years old, 14 inches round face and depth of hood is 6 inches. Worked in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply or even double knitting for a large size. I have made this one in modern 3ply to fit a 12 month baby. So sweet! The picture on the right is the other pattern included in this leaflet. This is a later version of the Bestway 140 without the baby design.

Bestway 647: Great vintage childs glove knitting pattern. This delightful pattern had instructions for knitting these pretty gloves to fit 4-6 years old with embroidery on, you could add beads for a special little girl, there are also instructions for the little bonnet on the right in this pattern to fit crown to lower edge 7.5 inches.

Bestway 1499: Great boys balaclava knitting pattern from wartime 1940s. This super pattern has three different styles to fit boys aged 6-16 - would suit girls too. These are so snug - my brothers all wore these in the 1950s and 60s. Knitted in vintage 3ply that knitted as modern 4ply. All three are worked on two needles. There is no tension suggested so work a square and see if the stitches you knit to the inch are enough to fit head.

Bestway 1829:  This is a fun vintage knitting pattern from the 1930's with long French style cap, one with stripes, one with Fair Isle band and one with an anchor embroidered on it (or just plain)The pattern says to fit any age, the measurement around the head is 14" stretching to 18" or 20" length when knot is tied in end 22". Fabulous to wear - I had one as child in the 1950's.

Bestway A2336: Great vintage knitting pattern for 4 different berets knitted in angora (bunny wool), but can be knitted in any modern 4ply yarn. Work a tension square to see if you need to change needles to get correct tension. The sizes are 2-4 years (12" round brim stretching to 18") and 4-6 years (13"  stretching to 20") There are instructions for a striped beret, one with dogs round it, one with flowers and a plain one. You will need 1oz or 30g of angora  for 2 of the berets the other two with motifs you will need 30g of modern 4ply plus 24 yards of angora for the motifs. The pattern calls for vintage 3 ply which is similar to modern 4ply. Work tension square first as all yarns including angora knit up differently.

Golden Eagle 879: Fabulous vintage baby knitting pattern for fair isle set from 1940s. Bonnet and jacket with rabbits on and pom-poms so retro this one, super! Small chart included,  to fit chest 19 inches. Worked in vintage 3ply so try modern 4ply in a tension square and change needles if needed. Where it says to make pompom with cardboard circle the size of a penny remember that an old penny was much bigger than the one we have now, it would be nearer the size of two pound coin.

Greenock B507: Great vintage knitting pattern for girl's hoods and gloves from 1940s. This super pattern has instructions for a fair isle pixie hood with matching gloves and a Dutch bonnet with gloves. Knitted in vintage 3ply, try modern 4ply. The Dutch bonnet is to fit  5-7 years 17 inches round face, 7 inches depth. The pixie is to fit 2-4 years and is 15 inches round face. If you use a size smaller needles or a modern 3ply then they will come up a bit smaller.  Always work a tension square.
