PA627L: Great vintage ladies twin set knitting pattern from 1940s. This super twin set is to fit 34 inch bust and is knitted in vintage 3ply, always work a tension square and adjust needle size if needed. Try modern fine 4ply in a tension square. The cardigan requires 13 buttons.

PA892L: Great vintage ladies knitting pattern from 1940s. This jumper cardigan is to fit 36 inch bust and is knitted in vintage 3ply, so try modern fine 4ply and change needles if needed. The original was worked in grey, blue and red and requires 9 buttons. Nice deep rib, pleated shoulder detail.

Patons 102L: Great vintage ladies wide stripe jumper knitting pattern from wartime Britain, 1940s. This super design has pleated shoulders , nicely fitted design and is knitted in a wool that would be similar to 3ply. Always work a tension square. To fit 32 inch bust, use a modern 4ply to get a large size, but allow more wool if you do this. Shoulder pads can be worn with this one.

Patons 103L: Great vintage 1940s wartime knitting pattern for  short sleeved jumper with fair isle border, very easy to do this one. You can always make the sleeves a bit shorter. Knitted in vintage 3ply so try modern 4ply in a tension square. To fit 34", work in double knitting on size 8 (4mm) for a large size. Patons 158 Skirts: Great vintage ladies skirt knitting pattern from 1940s. This is a lovely pattern with three different styles to knit - very popular in the war years. These designs are knitted in 4ply, but still work a tension square and keep to a tight tension, to keep fit correct in wear.  Closed with press studs and hook an eyes. Petesham will be needed for inside waist. Ask at a sewing shop for this. To fit hips 37, 39, 41 inches, length 26, 27, 28 inches(adjustable)

Worked in vintage 3ply so try modern 4ply and and work a tension square to see if a change of needles is needed. This is a small wartime leaflet. Patons 173L: Great vintage ladies jumper knitting pattern from 1940s. This pattern is typical of the era with soft bow at neck, short sleeves and button front, often called jumper blouse. To fit 37-38 inch bust. Knitted in a vintage 2ply, that knits as a modern 3ply. Work a tension square and change needles to get right tension. These thinner plys may sound daunting, but in fact give a more flattering and elegant line and are cheaper in amount of wool used. There are several places on the internet that a good selection of colours can be purchased - it really is worth a try. Always work a tension square.

Patons 190L: Great period pattern from the late 1940's for a jumper in 3ply to fit bust 33-35". If you knit in modern 4ply it will probably knit up to a size 36" but try a tension square first and change needles if necessary. This is not actually fair isle but the embroidered flowers and stripes give the impression and is so easy to work.

Patons 191L:  Great vintage summer top knitting pattern from late 1940s. This lovely pattern is to fit 34-36 inch bust and is knitted in vintage 3ply, always work a tension square. Short sleeves, lily pattern, great for the summer. Small press studs fasten at the back, but little buttons can be used. Pattern is in very nice condition, you can add shoulder pads if you want to make even more authentic.

Patons 194L: Great vintage ladies jumper coat knitting pattern from the 1940s. With set in sleeves and bow at neck and fancy panels at yoke, this super pattern is so very much of the 1940s. Knitted in vintage 3ply, but work a tension square to make sure. To fit 34 inch bust. Square tailored look is so retro and flattering. Shoulder pads can be added to give the tailored look.  I love the grouped buttons which is feature of many 1940s patterns

Patons 243L: Great vintage ladies jumper knitting pattern in ANGORA 1940s. This is a super little pattern for  short sleeved jumper in super soft angora or fuzzy Wuzzy as the yarn was called produced by Patons during the 1940s and 1950s. It knits as 4ply, so any modern 4ply or modern 4ply angora will work, but still do a tension square to make sure you do not need to change needles for correct tension. This Jumper will fit 32-36 inch bust in 3 sizes. Nice easy pattern. Try Orkney Angora for modern angora.

The V design at yoke is repeated at sleeve edges, knitted in stocking stitch otherwise. Knitted in a wool that would be similar to not too fine 4ply. Always work a tension square. Patons 343L:  1940's pattern in angora 34-36 inch. Lovely pattern in good condition, back suggests could be knitted in 3ply to gain similar results. Beryl was a 3ply angora, Fuzzy-wuzzy was a 4ply equivalent. To fit 34-36 inch bust. Try Orkney Angora for modern angora.

Patons 345L: Great vintage knitting pattern for sleeveless top with square neck from the 1920s. There are also instructions for a v neck sleeveless jumper as well included both to fit 34-35inch bust. Worked in a wool called Lorna - not sure of the ply but knitted on 10s (3.25) for rib and 6s 5mm for main part. Tension is 5.5 stitches to the inch with the larger needles over stocking stitch if this helps. As the fabric appears quite drapey then may be in modern 4ply - try this in a tension square or modern double knitting.

Patons 374L: Great vintage ladies knitting pattern from early 1930s. This lovely jumper knitting pattern is to fit 34 inch bust and is knitted in vintage 4ply that knitted to nearer a modern double knitting ply. Blue, lemon,  light blue and gold were the colours originally for this little jumper.

Knitted in a fine angora, always work a tension square and try modern 4ply angora or 4ply wool for this one. To fit 34, 36 and 38 inch bust. 5 small pearl buttons to close at back of neck. Patons 395L: Lovely vintage knitting pattern for ladies cardigan and jumper from late 1940s. Twin set knitted in vintage 3ply (try modern 4ply in a tension square)  to fit a 34"-38" with interesting banding at cuffs and yoke. The jumper is very 1940s. It has short sleeves, pocket detail and neck and sleeve bands detail embroidered on after finished. Very easy pattern and easy to make sleeves longer or shorter and to omit pockets!

Patons 509L: Great vintage ladies twin set knitting pattern from late 1940s. This useful jumper and cardigan is very easy to knit, the stripe jumper is in wide rib and cardigan in stocking stitch with stripes in the ribbing. To fit 34, 36 and 38 inch bust. Try modern 3ply in a tension square. There are several firms that now do a 3ply in adult colours including BSK mills in the UK.

Patons 526L: Great vintage ladies cable jumper knitting pattern 1940s. This design is to fit 34-36 inch bust and is knitted in a vintage 3ply that should knit well in a modern 4ply. Always work a tension square. The back is a rib with one cable down the centre. Lovely fit. Zip on left shoulder, or poppers or buttons can be used.

Patons 683: Sweet little vintage knitting pattern for ladies summer jumper worked in vintage 2ply (modern 3ply) to fit 34 inch bust - great for those summer weekend re enactment parties. Sleeves can be made shorter to be more flattering and still keep in era - my mother said they often made shorter sleeves as the wool was so scarce and often unpicked from last years jumpers - or from a big sisters! When she was in the WRAF during the 1940's she and her friends would unpick jumpers, cardigans etc and swap the wool and make different garments - sometimes to mix and match they made fair isles with patterns from different sources, just to be different!
