These very useful long coats with hoods keep baby warm, especially if having a christening at a chillier time of year. There is a lacy design which has a bonnet and a cute little collar with embroidery on the yoke. These are more useful than a shawl, warm and comfy. About 25 inches in length.

vintage baby matinee from 1920s

Greenock B03 Matinee: Great vintage baby knitting pattern for a matinee coat from around 1920 or earlier. This simple to knit jacket is worked in a 3ply, that might work well in a modern fine 4ply. Matinee measures 26 inches around chest before being tightened with draw ribbon. Full, comfy and adaptable little coat for an older baby. I knitted this for an 12 month baby and embroidered little daisies along the bottom and cuffs and added a contrast ribbon. I knitted it in modern 3ply baby wool on size 10 needles.

vintage pram set knitting pattern from 1920s

Greenock B36 Pram set: Great vintage knitting pattern for an early pram set from 1920s. This little set is easy to knit in stocking stitch and moss stitch with only basic shaping. Very typical for pre First World War on in to the 1920s. To fit 24 inches, this would be over a jumper or dress, vest and possibly a petticoat. It was still common at this time to layer babies up in the cooler weather. There is no tension, but for a smaller size try smaller needle size or a 3ply. For similar try a fine 4ply as wools tended to be thicker in ply at this time.

To fit 21-22 inch chest. This is a very pretty layette.

This type of set was often known as an Afternoon Set as baby would have been dressed up to for a stroll in her pram. My daughter always enjoyed her walk to the local park in our village in Leicestershire long before she could walk herself. This little outfit is to fit 20 inch chest, 6-9 months, knitted in a 3ply.

Templetons 757 Coat Set: Great vintage baby knitting pattern from 1940s. This smart little coat and bonnet is to fit 22 inch chest and knitted in a 3ply. There is a band of mock smocking at the waist, this is worked by sewing together the upright bars of the rib alternately, similar to smoking, easy and very pretty when done in a contrast yarn. The flower trimming on the bonnet is done by in crochet using a cardboard circle as a guide. Ore you could knit wool flowers.
