Barry12-98 Boy's Suit: Great vintage knitting pattern for little boy's buster suit from 1940s. This pattern is for two little sets, one with fair isle on waist band and cuffs, this one has straps. The other one has little buttons and the jumper can also be used as a cardigan and is double breasted with check cuffs and collar. BD88-1R: Great vintage baby dress knitting pattern fro 1930s. This lovely, easy to knit design is worked in Art Silk or shiny rayon, but any modern yarn can be used that knits to modern 4ply - modern silk and bamboo might be nice. Trimmed with angora. To fit 1-2 years. Use modern 3ply or 20 cotton for a smaller size.

Bestway 171: Lovely 1930's vintage knitting pattern for baby set for little boys. These little buster suits were popular from the First World War until after the Second World War and are very practical and are again becoming popular. The little shorts and jumpers are so cute and this little set has a jacket to match. The pattern is very easy to knit and typical of the 1930's. Knitted in vintage 3ply which would be similar to modern 4ply, always work a tension square and change needles to get size stated, or use modern 3ply to get a smaller size. To fit 20" chest.

Bestway 535: Great vintage baby shawl and blanket knitting pattern from late 1930s. There are two shawls and two pram blanket designs in this pattern. Here are the shawls they measure29 inches square in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply and the plainer one is 48 inches square and knitted in vintage 2ply, so try modern 3ply, this one has a lace edging and a shallow crocheted edging, with the centre in plain garter stitch. Included are the two blanket detailed below.

Bestway 535-1: Great vintage knitting pattern for 2 pram covers and two shawls. Here are the details of the blankets. The are both knitted in 4ply, so try modern double knitting in a tension square. The one at the bottom corner is double thickness, each side a different colour and small flower is embroidered in the centre of each diamond, with a nice firm moss stitch border, this one measures 37 by 25 inches. The one on the pram is in a fancy herringbone cable stitch, but easy to work, giving a good extra warmth. This one measure 33 inches by 25 inches.

Bestway 802: Great little vintage knitting patten for baby dress to fit 1, 2 and 3 year old, with puff sleeves and simple stripes and  cute peter pan collar. The stripes are knitted in a large needle and small needle creating a lace stripe. To fit 22-24 inch chest worked in vintage 2ply, so this will be modern 3ply.

Bestway864buw: Great vintage 1939 underwear knitting pattern for babies. this lovely pattern h as instructions for two different knickers and bodice sets. The one on the right is knitted and the other on is made from material (pattern shapes and instructions included) To fit 3months to 1 year. To fit a 16 inch chest. The pattern says due to wartime economies the government were advice these bodice set to take place of petticoats that took more wool or more material.

To fit 1-2 years, knitted in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply in a tension square.  Fits 22" chest, knit in modern 3ply for 20" and go down a size in needles for smaller sizes. Nice easy lace pattern, very dainty, make longer for Christening robe.

This super little pattern has instructions for  long dress, matinee jacket and long top bootees. all worked in vintage 3ply, so to get the correct size stated use modern 4ply, but try a tension square first and change needles or ply to get the correct size., for smaller new born size use modern 3ply. Bestway 1019: Great vintage 1940s baby knitting pattern for vest. Great addition to any modern baby's wardrobe - keep baby warm the old fashioned way - with layers. There are instructions for  5 different vests to fit newborn with a 15 inch chest to 18 inches. There are instructions for a long sleeve rib, cross over raglan with long sleeves, short sleeve Magyar, square necked all knitted in vintage 3ply - try modern 4ply and one in vintage 2ply try modern 3ply for this one. Bestway 1058: Great vintage knitting pattern for baby boys romper and vest set 1940s. This is a pre war little pattern for a classic button top romper with sleeves - not that different from the little onesies seen now. The vest has little sleeves and drawstring neck and the pilch or knickers have a simple crochet at legs - can be replaced with knitted rib or picot edge if liked.  to fit 19 inch chest 6-12 months. Romper is worked in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply or for a smaller size stay with modern 3ply. Vest set is in vintage 2ply which knits as modern 3ply.

This little set could easily be used as part of a layette, this design can be found on several shawl patterns in the shawl section. Bestway 1068:Great vintage knitting pattern for baby from the 1940. There are two dainty little matinee jackets for 3-12 months in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply. If you would like to make them to fit a newborn use modern 3ply. I have made the one on the bottom left and it looks super, fits an 17" chest when made in 3ply and 20" chest when worked in the 4ply.

Bestway 1098: Great vintage baby pram set knitting pattern from 1930s. This lovely pattern is for a nice early pram set and two different pairs of bootees with the longer tops that were typical of the 1940s. Very sweet little set in vintage 3ply, but remember that modern 4ply is nearer the ply, so always work a tension square and change needles if needed. The coat is to fit 24 inch chest - remember in those days babies wore a lot more clothes than modern babies - no central heating! To make a smaller size try using modern 3ply or smaller needles. The pattern is little bobbles on a rib design by the look of the inside illustration. Not made this one yet.

Bestway 1101: Great vintage baby cardigan knitting pattern from 1940s. This is a lovely retro pattern that has its place in a modern babies wardrobe.  This pattern will fit 18, 22 and 26 inch chest - from birth to school years. Knitted in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply in a tension square. A basic V neck with set in sleeves in a twisted rib design. Very nostalgic but also very practical.

Bestway 1103: Great vintage baby dress and knickers set knitting pattern from 1939. This is a lovely pattern and was reproduced during the 1940s in a smaller austerity format. So sweet as can be seen, I have made the one on right in white cashmere, stunning results. To fit babies 6-18 months, approx 19 and 20 inch chest. The one with the collar is knitted in foxglove stitch - so pretty. The plain little knickers will go with either dress. Knitted in vintage 3ply so work a tension square modern 3ply and 4ply to see which result you like the better, the 3ply will come a tad smaller.

The top of the dress is rib so will fit a smaller size neatly, this is so pretty and easy to knit, the dress is 16 inches long, but can be made shorter or longer (if longer remember to allow mere wool) there are also instructions for the rib vest and pilch (nappy cover- diaper cover).

Bestway 1370: Great vintage baby matinee, shawl and vest knitting pattern from 1940s. This is a very pretty easy pattern to work, the ever popular feather and fan. To fit 18 inch chest. Shawl measures 40 inches square. Knitted in vintage 2ply, this should be replaced with modern 3ply. I have knitted this little jacket many times it is so pretty. See picture below fro the shawl.

Bestway 1427: Great vintage baby pram set knitting pattern from 1940s. This pattern has a tiny section of simple colour work, great intro to fair isle. There are instructions for a little coat 20 inch chest if worked in modern 4ply which is the same as the old 3ply, but will come up smaller if worked in modern 3ply. There is a little beret, but it would be very easy to knit a hood instead.

Bestway 1428: Vintage baby knitting pattern. Another very sweet twosome, you could put a button at the neck of the lacy jacket quite easily. New born to 3 months size 18" chest. knitted in vintage 3ply so try modern 4ply or for a smaller size work in modern 3ply. Pattern from the early 1940's, possibly the late 1930's as they were often carried over due to the war and shortage of paper.

Bestway 1466: Great vintage baby matinee coat knitting pattern late 1940s. This pattern is for two different styles of jacket  knitted in vintage 3ply , so try modern 4ply to fit 18 inch chest. Always work a tension square and change needles if needed. If you would like a slightly smaller size us modern 3ply. The bottom design is knitted in two colours. My mother made this one for me in 1949 in pink with blue pattern and blue ribbons another pretty vintage combination is lemon with blue ribbons or pale green with pink ribbons - I have a vintage hand knitted baby jacket in my collection of vintage baby clothes in this combination.

Worked in vintage 3ply, so if worked in modern 3ply they will come up a bit smaller. Bestway 1469: Great vintage baby dress knitting pattern from wartime 1940s. This little dress has appeared on Bestway patterns since the early 1930s and continued to throughout the 1940s. It is easy to knit and has blackberry stitch top and chevron lace design skirt, the sleeves are set in. The length is 14 inches and the chest up to 20 inches. The little ribbons set it off and of course would have been silk!

Bestway 1488: Great vintage baby pattern from 1940s for romper. This sweet little design is to fit 1-2 years or 23 inch chest. Simple two colour fair isle band at waist. There is fullness to accommodate napkin and fastens at back of neck and between legs. 6 small button needed. Classic but still fashionable in a retro way. Always work a tension square. Vintage 3ply was used for original, try modern fine 4ply with a smaller size needle.

Bestway 1500: Great vintage baby dress knitting pattern from 1940s. This wartime pattern is for little dress with collar to fit 6-12 months and is knitted in 3ply. Try modern 3ply and 4ply in tension square, but to get this size I think that the 4ply will work better. In modern 3ply it will be a bit smaller. Has embroidered flowers at waist. There is a picot edge worked in crochet round collar edge, sleeves and hem, but you can work a knitted picot edge if like me , you do not crochet.

Bestway 1958: Vintage matinee jacket and cardigan pattern for baby from 1940s. Worked in vintage 3ply, so try tension square in modern 4ply to see if this works better. 2oz is about 60g. Matinee fits20" chest, for smaller size knit in modern 3ply and on 11 needles (3mm) The cardigan will fit 19". Very pretty when knitted up.
