Barry12-98 Boy's Suit: Great vintage knitting pattern for little boy's buster suit from 1940s. This pattern is for two little sets, one with fair isle on waist band and cuffs, this one has straps. The other one has little buttons and the jumper can also be used as a cardigan and is double breasted with check cuffs and collar. To fit 21-22 inch chest and knitted in vintage 3ply which would be similar to modern 4ply. Always work a tension square.

Both sets have neat little shorts and the jumpers are long sleeved.

This lovely, easy to knit design is worked in Art Silk or shiny rayon, but any modern yarn can be used that knits to modern 4ply - modern silk and bamboo might be nice. Trimmed with angora. To fit 1-2 years. Use modern 3ply or 20 cotton for a smaller size.

Baby bonnet knitting pattern vintage from 1920s Beryl 458 Bonnet: Great vintage knitting pattern for bonnet from 1910. This is a really early pattern and typical of the time and although looks easy it is rather complicated pattern. A nice challenge for an experienced knitter. Can be worked in a 4ply wool or silk thread the correct thickness. worked on size 11 needles (3mm). An interesting project.

vintage baby vets knitting pattern from 1910 Beryl 565-322 Vests: Great vintage knitting pattern for really early vests probably around 1910 or earlier. They are both knitted in vintage 2ply which would be similar to modern 3ply. They are knitted on size 11 (3mm) and it is suggested for a larger size to change needle size to 10. These can also be knitted in silk. Three needles are required for one on the left and is knitted in a rib, then a wave pattern fro top ans sleeves edges. The one on the right is knitted in garter stitch and is for a tiny baby and is edged in crochet shells or you could pick up stitches and make a picot edge.

Bestway 535: Great vintage baby shawl and blanket knitting pattern from late 1930s. There are two shawls and two pram blanket designs in this pattern. Here are the shawls they measure29 inches square in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply and the plainer one is 48 inches square and knitted in vintage 2ply, so try modern 3ply, this one has a lace edging and a shallow crocheted edging, with the centre in plain garter stitch. Included are the two blanket detailed below.

Bestway 535-1: Great vintage knitting pattern for 2 pram covers and two shawls. Here are the details of the blankets. The are both knitted in 4ply, so try modern double knitting in a tension square. The one at the bottom corner is double thickness, each side a different colour and small flower is embroidered in the centre of each diamond, with a nice firm moss stitch border, this one measures 37 by 25 inches. The one on the pram is in a fancy herringbone cable stitch, but easy to work, giving a good extra warmth. This one measure 33 inches by 25 inches.

If you would like to make them to fit a newborn use modern 3ply. I have made the one on the bottom left and it looks super, fits an 17" chest when made in 3ply and 20" chest when worked in the 4ply.

Bestway 1098: Great vintage baby pram set knitting pattern from 1930s. This lovely pattern is for a nice early pram set and two different pairs of bootees with the longer tops that were typical of the 1940s. Very sweet little set in vintage 3ply, but remember that modern 4ply is nearer the ply, so always work a tension square and change needles if needed. The coat is to fit 24 inch chest - remember in those days babies wore a lot more clothes than modern babies - no central heating! To make a smaller size try using modern 3ply or smaller needles. The pattern is little bobbles on a rib design by the look of the inside illustration. Not made this one yet.

Bestway 1101: Great vintage baby cardigan knitting pattern from 1940s. This is a lovely retro pattern that has its place in a modern babies wardrobe.  This pattern will fit 18, 22 and 26 inch chest - from birth to school years. Knitted in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply in a tension square. A basic V neck with set in sleeves in a twisted rib design. Very nostalgic but also very practical.

Bestway 1103: Great vintage baby dress and knickers set knitting pattern from 1939. This is a lovely pattern and was reproduced during the 1940s in a smaller austerity format. So sweet as can be seen, I have made the one on right in white cashmere, stunning results. To fit babies 6-18 months, approx 19 and 20 inch chest. The one with the collar is knitted in foxglove stitch - so pretty. The plain little knickers will go with either dress. Knitted in vintage 3ply so work a tension square modern 3ply and 4ply to see which result you like the better, the 3ply will come a tad smaller.

Bestway 1370: Great vintage baby matinee, shawl and vest knitting pattern from 1940s. This is a very pretty easy pattern to work, the ever popular feather and fan. To fit 18 inch chest. Shawl measures 40 inches square. Knitted in vintage 2ply, this should be replaced with modern 3ply. I have knitted this little jacket many times it is so pretty. See picture below fro the shawl.

Trio of baby boys pixie caps knitted in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply in a tension square and change needles if needed. Modern 3ply will make a slightly smaller size. To fit 18 months to 3 years, so cute! And so easy to knit. Included in this pattern is a pretty matinee coat in a chevron lace pattern to fit birth -6 months - I have made this one and it is so cute - so are the caps which are all the same basic pattern so very easy to knit and take so little wool less then 50g each!

Mittens have thumb, but this is easy to leave out. The leggings are footless so fit over little shoes neatly, but still keep legs warm, so great for the toddler.

My mother made this one for me in 1949 in pink with blue pattern and blue ribbons another pretty vintage combination is lemon with blue ribbons or pale green with pink ribbons - I have a vintage hand knitted baby jacket in my collection of vintage baby clothes in this combination.

Bestway 1469: Great vintage baby dress knitting pattern from wartime 1940s. This little dress has appeared on Bestway patterns since the early 1930s and continued to throughout the 1940s. It is easy to knit and has blackberry stitch top and chevron lace design skirt, the sleeves are set in. The length is 14 inches and the chest up to 20 inches. The little ribbons set it off and of course would have been silk!

There is a picot edge worked in crochet round collar edge, sleeves and hem, but you can work a knitted picot edge if like me , you do not crochet.
