Baby Bird Layette: Great vintage knitting pattern for baby layette from 1940s. There are instructions for a coat, bonnet, bootees, dress and shawl in feather and fan pattern, a perennial pattern, easy to work and so pretty. To fit 20-21 inch chest and the shawl measures 48 x 48. This set is knitted in modern 3ply. Makes a lovely vintage gift for a lucky mother to be.

Here is a gorgeous layette from the 1930's This pattern has a stunning shawl, easy pattern, cute little retro bonnet and dress with underwear and bootees to match including a sweet little hug-me-tight, all knitted in vintage 3ply pure wool or try modern 4ply (work tension square). The shawl takes 13 oz or 7 x 50gm balls modern 4ply, the dress and bonnet 2x 50gm balls of modern 4ply (makes them a little smaller, therefore more suitable for new-borns - have ago is easier than it looks!

Knitted in vintage 3ply that is similar to modern 4ply, but if you want a smaller, new born size use modern 3ply. You can make the dress shorter or longer to suit. This little set could easily be used as part of a layette, this design can be found on several shawl patterns in the shawl section. There are instructions for dress, jacket, bonnet, bootees and mitts. Knit in modern 3ply to suit new born-3 months. Jacket chest is 17 inches, dress is 22 inch chest.

There is a complete layette here, vest, shawl, frock, matinee and and bootees in a simple pattern to fit chest 18 inches, in vintage 3ply, so try a tension square and if you would like it to fit new born try using modern 3ply, otherwise modern 4ply will give a better size as stated.

Bestway A2527: Great baby layette knitting pattern from 1940s. This super layette has instructions for shawl, dress, jacket, vest, bootees and mittens - easy to make a bonnet from another pattern and work in the feather and fan pattern on the brim. This one is worked on slightly larger needles to give a looser, lighter fabric. Dress to fit 18-20 inches, work in a modern 3ply on smaller needles to get a smaller size. Always work a tension square. Shawl is 44 inches square.

Cicely Layette: Part One:  Great vintage knitting pattern for baby from 1920s. This stunning pattern has instructions for three dresses, two jackets, bonnet and hat, gaiters, bootees and underwear as shown below, all matching in an easy to work pattern. All knitted in vintage 3ply, but try modern 4ply. No chest measurement, but would fit a new born in 3ply and three month old in 4ply. Wool quantities given per item, allow and extra few balls over all if working 4ply.

Cherie Layette: Great vintage baby knitting pattern for layette. This one is easy to knit with little mock cable. There is a bonnet and cap for either a boy or a girl and a sweet little pair of knickers are included. Try modern 4ply for size stated 3-6 months or a modern 3ply for a size smaller. Neat, with that retro look.

Copleys 3004: Great vintage baby layette knitting pattern from late 1940s. How retro is this? Pretty dress, jacket, bonnet, bootees and underwear to fit baby 18 inch chest. Knitted in vintage 3ply that was similar to modern 4ply. Always work a tension square, but for a smaller set work in modern 3ply. The dress is rather long, but can be made shorter or as a christening gown a bit longer. The matinee coat has a collar and the bonnet is rather stunning with wide turn back. Easy lacy pattern and a pin spot pattern.

Fleur Layette:  Great vintage baby layette knitting pattern. I love these layette as you get so many garments in the one pattern for the complete set for baby. Makes a lovely gift and can be added to with other items incorporating the same design. This one is a favourite. This one is to fit 6-12 months and knitted in a fine 4ply or if kitted in a 3ply will come up a little smaller, a change of needles and ply and you have a new born baby size. There are instructions for a vest and knicker combo, beautiful dress, jacket and bonnet with bootees and mittens to complete.

This set has instructions for  dress, matinee coat, bonnet, mittens and bootees, leggings, shawl. The dress is shown on the right. Knitted in 3ply, but try modern 4ply on smaller needles if preferred. Shawl measures 44 inches square and the coat and dress fit up to a 20-21 inch chest. Layette Little Angel: Great vintage 1940s set for baby knitting pattern. There are instructions for coat and bonnet and bootees and vest and knickers - a dress can be made with the same pattern on the skirt from any other pattern that will fit in similar wool. The coat is a bit longer than modern matinee as is it was intended to be worn when carrying baby and would be worn over several layers of clothing. To fit 22 inch chest and knitted in vintage 3ply, try modern 3ply for this one.

Worked in a zig zag pattern, see below. To fit birth to 6 months. You can always make coat and dress a bit short. Vintage 3ply is used so you can use modern 3ply for slightly smaller or modern 4ply for similar size.

Lambkin Dress Set-2: Great dress set knitting pattern from 1940s. This little set is similar to the one above but the dress has the collar and the matinee jacket is different as is the bonnet with a turn back. To fit 21 inch chest, dress is 16 inches in length but is adjustable, bonnet is 13 inches round face. Knitted in 3ply. Always work a tension square.

Layette Little Princess: Great vintage baby knitting pattern for layette from 1940s. There are instructions for double breasted coat with little collar as shown and dress, as well as jacket, petticoat, vest, knickers, bonnet, bootees and mittens. The panels are worked in Blackberry stitch, but any other stitch could be used. Dress and coat can be made shorter. To fit up to 20 inch chest and worked in vintage 3ply, try modern 3ply for this one.

Try a tension square on 4ply and see if you need to change needles. To fit 17-18 inch chest, or birth to 6 months. The paw print lace pattern is very easy to work and is a staple through out the 30s and 40s in baby wear.

This set consists of Dress, petticoat, carry coat, matinee jacket, vest, modesties (pants) bonnet, bootees and mittens all knitted in a vintage 2ply wool that would knit to a modern 3ply. To fit 18-21 inch chest. Measure chest over clothes for coat, matinee and dress. Use a smaller size needle if you require a smaller size.

Petite Layette: Great vintage knitting pattern for baby layette. I love these patterns as they had so many garments to chose from and all match. This one is super easy with a plain coat with ribbed yoke for a lovely fit, simple dress with a ribbed yoke. The lace edging is worked afterwards and sewn on so is therefore optional. if you choose not to use the lace edging, begin dress with 10 rows of garter stitch like coat. So this one is super simple to make, give it a try. There are also instructions for vest, pants. bonnet and a helmet.

Poppet Layette: Great vintage baby layette knitting pattern trimmed in blackberry stitch. This one is to fit 6-12 months and is worked 3ply, try a size smaller needles for a little smaller size. There are instructions for a fabulously flared coat, dress, leggings, bonnet and helmet as well as mittens. Easy to make a pair o bootees to match by using any pattern and substitute top pattern with a blackberry stitch from the mittens.

Ramada50-20 dress Set: Great vintage baby out fit knitting pattern from early 1930s. This sweet little set is knitted in cluster stitch and is to fit up to 12 months. There is no chest measurement given. Work a tension square and adjust needles to get size required. The pattern part of this outfit is worked on large needles and the stocking stitch on regular size for yarn. Try baby wool or modern 4ply for size required. The set comprises of a coat with collar trimmed with lace pattern, a long sleeved dress with bands of lace patterning, bootees, petticoat, bonnet, beret, mittens and shoes, ribbed underwear and a shawl.
