vintage baby knitting pattern 1940sdress

Pearsall's 353: Great vintage 1920s knitting pattern for baby dress. There are instructions for dress to fit 17 inch chest. The original yarn was a pure silk and wool blend, you can still by this type of yarn, but this was probably in a vintage 2ply, so try modern 3ply in a tension square, front and back are worked the same. the vest is to fit 16 inch chest. Can be knitted in pure silk, if you do this read the instructions on the back page for knitting with pure silk as this still holds true even for modern silk yarn. I will try knitting the vest in modern 3ply pure wool ans see what size it come out - just need a bit of time!

vintage baby dress set knitting pattern 1940s Pearsalls 415 Dress Set: great vintage baby knitting pattern from 1940s.  Fabulous little set for baby girl consisting of dress, matinee coat and knickers. To fit 24 inch chest and worked in a 4ply rayon that would have been shiny like silk, but a modern day 4ply should work or 3ply for a smaller set.

The little matinee has embroidery on, as does the yoke of the dress, the cute little bootees have pom-poms on the ties - so charming! Knitted in vintage 3ply so the same rule applies as always - work a tension square and use modern 4ply if you want a similar fit, change needles if needed. but if you would like a smaller size then try modern 3ply. To fit 18 inch chest.

Ramada50-20 dress Set: Great vintage baby out fit knitting pattern from early 1930s. This sweet little set is knitted in cluster stitch and is to fit up to 12 months. There is no chest measurement given. Work a tension square and adjust needles to get size required. The pattern part of this outfit is worked on large needles and the stocking stitch on regular size for yarn. Try baby wool or modern 4ply for size required. There are instructions for dress, matinee coat, bonnet bootees.

lacy dress knitting pattern from 1940s RHL-Dress: Great vintage knitting pattern for pretty baby dress set from 1940s. This dress pattern is to match the jacket and bootees set. Lovely open work, scallop pattern, with puff sleeves. To fit birth to 9 months and is knitted in 3ply on larger needles that you would think for this ply to give loose, light fabric. The shawl below also has the scallop design edging.

rosies dress set from 1962 Rosie Dress Set -1: Great vintage baby dress set knitting pattern. This set has instructions for dress, coat, bonnet and bootees. This is what we used to call and Afternoon set. It was customary in the spring and summer to change baby after lunch and take her or him out in the pram in her best for a breath of fresh air or visiting. A pretty matinee and bonnet over a little lace dress or cotton smocked dress was the order of the day. And oh, those lovely big fringed canopies to keep the sun off baby! This little set is to fit 18-19 inch chest and is knitted in 3ply, using modern 3ply the set will be a tad smaller. The dress is 14 inches long.

Rosemary Dress-1: Great vintage baby knitting pattern from 1940s for baby dress. This pretty dress is a classic style with popular daisy lace design. To fit 18 inch chest and 15 inches in dress length. A French knot is worked in the centre of each lace flower in design if required. I made this as a Christening dress a few years ago with a little trouser set in the same design for the baby's twin brother.

Worked in vintage 3ply, but try 4ply in a tension square if preferred. Jacket with full sleeves and collar is very pretty and is 19 inches at chest also in vintage 3ply, but try modern 4ply.

SS23-4: Christening Dress: Great vintage baby dress knitting pattern. This design can either be long at 23 inches, or 13 inches as short - or whatever length you require. This is called wave and eyelet stitch. There is a picot hem and pretty puff sleeves. Whole set is very classic and easy to knit. This is for the dress and bootees, see below for jacket, bonnet and mittens. Modern 3 or 4ply can be used, always work a tension square.

SS45-10 Christening Gown: Great vintage knitting pattern for christening dress from 1945. This lovely dress is knitted in 3ply (vintage 2ply) always work a tension square, for smaller size use 2ply or smaller needles. Instructions for a short dress included. To fit 18 inch chest - measure over vest and petticoat. Work to 26, 15 or any number of inches required. Knitted on larger needles to create a light  and delicate dress.

vintage baby dress and shawl knitting pattern 1940s Stitchcraft 152: Great vintage baby knitting pattern for little dress from the 1930s, This pattern has the shawl shown above and a dress to make from vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply. To fit around 6 month baby as shown on front, or 17 inch chest and length from shoulder to hem is 16 inches. Rib at beginning of bodice gives nice shape and the little puff sleeves are really sweet. You can always make this one a bit shorter for a new baby. Always work a tension square

vintage dress for toddler knitting pattern 1940s Stitchcraft 164: Great vintage dress knitting pattern for toddler from the 1930s. This one is to fit a 2 year old and is knitted in vintage 4ply, so try modern double knitting in a tension square. Trimmed with angora with pretty mother of pearl buttons on the double breasted bodice and a little belt to give style to a young lady - original was knitted in pink with white angora collar. The box pleats are easy to make. There are some pictures on the back of patterns that were available at the time this one was printed, some of which I have in my collection.

Suzie dress knitting pattern from 1940s Suzie Dress-1:Great vintage baby dress knitting pattern from 1949. This little long sleeved dress is just ready for the winter. Pretty eyelet design - the eyelets are embroidered round when finished to give a touch of colour. To fit 20 inch chest knitted in 3ply. Always work a tension square. I made this one in modern 3ply cashmere and embroidered the same little flowers at yoke. I made the eyelets in to flowers with different pastel colour threads.

suzie dress set - 1 Suzie Christening Set-2: Great vintage dress set knitting pattern from 1949. This lovely set is knitted in 3ply or 4ply to fit 18-20 inch chest. Pretty diamond stitch, the shawl below makes this a lovely christening set. The dress is 21 inches long. The coat is 20 inch chest and bonnet is 12 inches round face. There are instructions for bootees as well, a pair of mittens should not be too difficult to make to match. To make smaller size us modern 3ply on a size smaller needles. This includes the shawl seen on the shawl page 2 and can be bought separately as shown.

Sweet-pea Dress: great vintage knitting pattern for baby dress from 1936. This little dress has puff sleeves and blackberry stitch bands. To fit about 12 months or chest 22 inches knickers to match included. Knitted in a wool similar to modern 4ply, for a smaller size try modern 3ply. The original yarn had a sheen like a perle yarn or silk.

Templetons 231: Great baby vintage knitting pattern 1930s. There are instructions for the dress, 22 inch chest and matching cardigan 23 inch chest, little jersey for boy 23 inch chest, and a little cardigan 22 inch chest. Opalsheen was a baby wool made with rayon mixture that gave the yarn a subtle shine and would have knitted to a modern 4ply, but work a tension square first to check tension - 7st to 1", 8 rows to 1" on size 9 imperial needles (3.75mm).

I have made this set in pink cashmere for a customer, very successfully. To fit dress 20 inch chest and the jacket is up to 24 inch chest. Bonnet measures 12 inches round face. Knitted in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply in a tension square. Shoulder buttons on the dress are hand crocheted ( I used vintage pearl ones)

Woolco 25: Dress Set: Great vintage knitting pattern from 1930s. This has long been on of my favourite patterns, it knits up beautifully with it's unusual pattern. To fit 18 inch chest, dress 16 inches in length, the coat is 20 inch chest and 9 inches in length. Knitted in a vintage 3ply that would work well in a modern4ply. always work a tension square and use modern 3ply for a smaller size. The dress as three small button on each shoulder to help with dressing.
