Crochet 204cr : Great vintage CROCHET pattern for motif and ideas of using the motifs from 1930s. This is for the Petal Motif as shown, using no40 or 60 cotton giving size of motif when finished. The finished squares are between around 5-6 inches depending on cotton used. There are guides as to how many motifs you need for a bedspread. Balls are usually 20g. Very useful motif as a single one is ideal for mats as shown and being square are easy to stitch together.

This is a pattern from the wartime when austerity caused every one to save and to make do or mend. Not a bad idea these days. This set is worked in a yarn that works to a tension of 9 d.c and 22 rows to 2 inches (5cm) on 11 hook (UK) that would be 2.5mm in metric. Gusset is worked separately.

This fabulous wartime knitting and crochet pattern has two different designs. both are worked in vintage 3ply, so always work a tension square for each one and change needles or hook if needed. You may find that modern 4ply works better and is of course easier to get hold of in adult colours. Over all length for both is 8.75 inches - but this adjustable and cross the back of hand above thumb division is 3 inches, which is pretty standard for the time, a larger size hook or needle will give a bit more freedom if your hands are a little on the plump side (like mine!)

Homecraft 452: Great vintage CROCHET pattern 1940s hat belt beaded. This little set is great for evenings, weddings and other special occasions. Crocheted in Cronit rayon, no thread size given, but the rayon was a perle or shiny synthetic cotton, so trial by working a sample would be best as there is not tension suggestions either. The sequin and bead trimming can be omitted as they are added after pieces have been worked. There are other hat and belt crochet patterns on the crochet pages under ladies patterns that will guide as to how much cotton would be needed and tension etc.

The instructions are for silk ties crocheted in 9 designs.
