Sirdar 770: Great vintage ladies bed cape in pretty pattern 1930s. This pattern does not give a bust measurement, but says that across shoulder the measurement is 13 inches. I would imagine it is between 32-34 inch bust as this was the average size at that time. Knitted in vintage 3ply but would knit better in 4ply. Always work a tension square - use double knitting for a larger size - but remember to allow more yarn.

Knitted in a 2ply that used to knit to a 4ply, so try 4ply in a modern yarn and tension square. to fit 34 inch bust. If you want to knit longer sleeves don't forget to allow more yarn.

SS47-1-10 Nightdress: Great vintage knitting pattern for ladies nightdress from 1947. This super fine and so very pretty nightdress in knitted in vintage 2ply which would be similar to modern 3ply. Try baby wool for this one. Always work a tension square. To fit 34-36 inch bust, length 45 inches, but can be adjusted. SS47-1-10 Matching Bed Jacket: Great vintage ladies knitting pattern for bed jacket knitted in a lovely fine 3ply wool and with a smocked yoke. This little jacket is knitted in one to fit 34-36 inch bust and is well worth the effort of the fine wool and needles, so dainty and feminine. Templeton's 736BJ: Great vintage ladies bed jacket knitting pattern 1940s. This is a lovely pattern for jacket and bed socks. The jacket has down at the edges, but this is not essential. The original wool was a yarn that was wool and art silk(rayon) mix - so would have had a soft sheen to it and hand nicely and knitted to a modern 4ply. To fit up to 38 inch bust.

They have suggested art silk (rayon) and wool mix) I think Sirdar do a silk and wool mix that knits to a 4ply - that would work really well. Always do a tension square and change hook if needed.

Weldons 282-10: Great vintage crochet pattern for ladies bed jacket 1930s. This is a stunning pattern, I have put up two pictures so that you can see the back, this reminds me of those Noel Coward plays or early Miss Marples! In one of the Tommy and Tuppence series, Tuppence wears something similar. This design has soft falling folds and light open work yoke. It is so graceful and feminine. Worked in vintage 2ply, so try modern 3ply in a tension square and change hook if needed. To fit almost any size.

Weldons 282-14:Great vintage crochet ladies bed jacket pattern 1930s. This is another of those classic styles with wide Hairpin crochet at the edges and a floppy silk bow to fit up to a 40 inch bust. Worked in what was called 'Boudoir Art Silk and Wool' How delightful. It would have been similar to our modern 4ply, but work a tension square and change hook to get the correct tension.

Weldons 282-15: Great vintage crochet pattern for ladies boudoir cap 1930s. This is a pattern for the memorable 'boudoir cap or bed cap, to keep those precious shingles in place - it was very expensive to have what was termed as a Marcel Wave or shingles. I have one of these in my vintage underwear collection made from silk. No 5 pearl cotton is recommended and a large size 1 hook, very pretty to fit average head. My great-grandmother used to wear one! Not as pretty as this one if I remember rightly though!

Weldons 327-6: Great vintage knitting pattern for ladies free size bed jacket 1940s. Here are instructions for a pretty, loose fitting bed jacket in a delicate design. Knitted in panels, 7 in all and then sewn together and add knitted borders and crochet at the neck edge for the ribbon, this can be knitted if you do not crochet. The edging is made from repeats of the pattern. Worked in vintage 2ply, so try modern 3ply in a tension square. You can make extra panels to make the bed jacket bigger.

It is worked in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply in a tension square and it should fit 32-34 inch bust - very fashionable style, nice floppy bow to fasten, but can be replaced with large pretty button if preferred. It is made from a straight strip of garter stitch work, a little bit of sewing up at the sleeve and some simple crochet at neck and round edge - this can be replaced with lace, swans-down or a knitted edging.

The wool used is called cobweb - this was very thin - can still be obtained, but try Patons baby 2ply or another ply yarn.
