Spider Wools183: Fabulous vintage knitting pattern from late 1930-early 1940s for girl's beret, jumper and glove set with Scotties dogs on, instructions for pleated skirt also included. To fit 24 inch chest. (5-7 years.) Colours used in model navy blue ground, grey, blue, red, white, green, yellow. It is knitted in vintage 3ply so try modern 4ply as this knits to a similar tension, always work a tension square and change needles if needed.

Spider Wool 188: Another delightful pattern from the same era as above, 1930-1940 this time for an older girl. Beret, jumper, and gloves in rich classic fair isle motifs. 26 inch chest (10-14 years.) Work in modern 4ply and do tension square to see if you need to change needles to get correct size. Colour suggest in pattern on navy ground, (but would look good on light ground ), red, yellow, green, fawn, light blue.

Spider wools 196: Great vintage knitting pattern for girls jumper, beret and gloves set from 1930s, this one has little pixies on, to fit 28 inches chest. Vintage 3ply used, so try modern 4ply in a tension square. Colours used on the model navy, grey,, blue, yellow,red, white.

Target 1144: Great vintage knitting pattern for boys slip overs plain and fair isle 1940s. This pattern has instructions for two different tank tops for boys. one is in fair isle to fit 8-10 years or 26 inch chest and the other to fit 6-8 years with penguin round the border. Both are knitted in the equivalent of modern day 4ply. Always work a tensions square and change needles if needed. Great for authenticity for costume in theatre, film, period events and museum displays.

Templeton 824: Vintage knitting pattern for two little cardigans with fair isle detail, one has a cute little squirrel on the pocket, the other a border of fair isle. Knitted in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply in a tension square. To fit 24" chest

Till 56: Great vintage knitting pattern for jumper sets with teddy bears on 1930s. This is s super pattern and easy to follow, the button neck jumper has little collar and teddy motifs round the bottom, the mittens have a teddy on the back part and the beret has them running round the edge. To fit 25 inch chest. There are also instructions for the sweet little pleated skirt and boys shorts. This is so retro, My mother said that all little girls and boys wore this type of thing in the 30s and in the 40s. Knitted in modern 4ply, work a tension square and change needles if needed. Not charted.

TPG 46: Fabulous fair isle knitting pattern from the 1920s to fit child 4-6 (27 inch chest). This one is for a cardigan, jumper with collar, beret, scarf and gloves.  Colours suggested in pattern are fawn ground (as was common at this time) yellow, maroon, emerald, blue, light yellow, crimson, white and scarlet. There are small charts to show the patterning. Knitted on 4 needles (or circular if you prefer) I personally find 4 needles easier, but them I am in  my 60s and was taught to knit on 4 needles in 1954! I love this pattern and think it worth the effort to give it a try - the beret alone is stunning when made up. Vintage 3ply was used so try modern 4ply ( no tension is given)

TPG 47: Great fair isle pattern from the 1920's for childs beret, scarf, jumper, and breeches (trousers) to fit 2-4 year old. This one is worked in vintage 3ply so try modern 4ply for size stated, no chest size for this one, but there is a tension of 6 stitches to an inch on size 9 imperial needles (3.75mm) you could use smaller or lager needles for different sizes (don’t forget to allow more wool and inches in length for larger sizes) Colours suggested in pattern are again the fawn ground with green, yellow, blue, orange, dark blue, red. This one also is knitted in 4 needles. You can easily use two needles by dividing the stitches between the back and fronts. Using 4 needles or a circular one for the scarf will mean no seam, but can easily be knitted straight ad then seamed just cast on the same amount of stitches but on two needles instead, the same with the beret and join seam when finished. This applies to the above pattern as well.

Viyella 2001: Great vintage baby boys fair isle picture knit suit 1940s. This lovely pattern has instructions for a little jumper with wooden horse and golly on the yoke - to fit 18-24 months or 23 inch chest. Button on shoulder, lovely period pattern. Always work  tension square and change needles if needed , worked in vintage 3ply so try modern 4ply in a tension square.

Weldons 351-Royal Procession: Great vintage child's jumper and cardigan knitting pattern. To fit 2-4 years and 4-6 years or 23-24 inch chest and 24-26 inch chest. Knitted in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply in a tension square and change needles if needed. Here are the instructions for the coach and horses as well as the mounted soldiers. Nice charts and the colours that are suggested. The basic cardigan is V necked and the jumper has short sleeves and a round neck.

This little jumper is to fit 4-6 years and is knitted in vintage 3ply that could be worked in modern 4ply with a change of needle size. To fit 25 inch chest. and the colours suggested t the time were navy blue and white.

Weldon 723: Great vintage babies cardigan with fair isle borders 1940s. This little cardigan is in 3 sizes as shown with nice simple fair isle border, good introduction to fair isle work. Knitted in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply in a tension square and change needles if needed. Suitable for boy or girls. Original colours suggested were natural ground, with small quantities of  blue, green and rust red. To fit  22, 23, and 24 inch chest.

Weldons 725: Great child's jumper with Scottie dogs fair isle knitting pattern from 1940s. This little jumper has a round neck and lots of little dogs all over it! They look like Sealyham Terriers but could be Scotties or Westies. To fit 3-5 years or 24-25 inch chest. With a little chart as well. Knitted in vintage 3ply that should be similar to modern 4ply, check tension.

This is very useful pattern for fair isle flower yoke and little buttons at the shoulder, it has instructions to fit 34-36 inch bust and 27 inch chest. Worked in vintage 3ply, try modern 4ply in a tension square and change needles if needed. Instructions for long and short sleeve, the wide rib body  allows for nice fit.

This design has instructions for both the high V neck cardigan with the cars and the short sleeved jumper with the planes. To fit 2-4 years or 24 inch chest. There is a chart for the Planes but not for the cars their instructions are written in the pattern. Jumper fastens at the shoulder with little buttons. Lovely fair isle set.

Weldons A1063: Great vintage picture knit jumper and cardigan for child. This unusual design is based on the comic story character of Hank and his trusty steed Silver King of Western fame, he also appeared in Whirligig Children's TV programme as a puppet - toys were made and he was a very popular Character along with Chief Dirty Face and the bandit Mexican Pete - you can guess how old I am! I actually remember these characters from the comic as we did not have TV at the time. To fit 2-4 and 4-6 years or 23 or 24 inch chest.
