Bairnswear 422MS: Great vintage knitting pattern 1930s socks. This is ideal knitting pattern for  those who prefer 2 needles rather than 4. Four designs to fit 10, 10.5 and 11 inch foot. Leg length can be adjusted as can the foot length. Leg lengths between 13.5 and 14.5 inches. Worked in 4ply, try modern 4ply with needles suggested and change needles if tension needs to be adjusted worked on size 12 imperial needles or 2.75mm needles for a nice firm fabric.

Bairnswear 384: Great vintage knitting pattern from the 1930s for men's socks. To fit foot measurements 10, 10.5 and 11 inches. There are 4 designs rib, wide rib and two in stocking stitch with different heels. One has thickened heels and toes for better wear. Knitted on 4 needles in either vintage 3ply or 4ply. Always work a tension square.

Bestway 682: Vintage knitting pattern for men's gloves and socks1940s. All knitted on 2 needles in vintage 4 ply. Work tension square to see if modern double knitting might give a better result. Sewing cotton is knitted in with the wool at the heel and toe for strengthening.

Bestway 741: Great vintage knitting pattern from the early 1940's during WWII - how to re-foot socks! Also a pattern for men's socks, this is also entitled as First Aid for Socks. Includes pictures and instructions, knitted on 4 needles. Great piece of social history.

Bestway 753: Great vintage men's sock knitting pattern from 1940's wartime.  These were made to have the foot part easily replaced to save money and coupons. Knitted on 2 needles, in two different thicknesses. vintage thick 3ply similar to modern 4ply and a thick 4ply that is the same as modern double knitting. It is recommended that you use double pointed needles although only 2 are needed. Foot adjustable 10, 10.5 and 11 inches stated. Re-footing instructions given.

Bestway 887: Great vintage knitting patten for men's socks from 1940s. These are knitted on 2 needles with reinforced heels and toes - great for service men. Knitted in vintage 3ply, so work a tension square in modern 4ply. Foot is 11 inches, but this can be adjusted. Always work at tension square.

Bestway 1164: Carpet slippers made from carpet yarn. From the late 1930's this pattern has 6 designs for crochet slippers children's and adults - pre-made soles are suggested, but with a little ingenuity soles can be crochet, made from felt, use old slippers or shoes for shape of sole. Great for that Christmas surprise!

Bestway 1246: Fabulous men's slipper pattern from the 1940's, although ready made soles are used, they can be home made from felt or crochet or knitted or even cork can be used, or  ready made insoles. I do believe Coats, see links pages, still do them. , there are knitted  and crocheted designs in this pattern to fit sizes 8, 9, 10, 11 knitted in various yarn, alway work a tension square to see if hook or needles need changing. This would make a great project for next Christmas - something very different and practical!

Bestway 1836: Great vintage men's fair isle sock knitting pattern from 1940s. This wartime pattern has instructions for  a pair of socks knitted in 4ply, always work a tension square. To fit around11 inch foot, but this is adjustable. there is a chart for the fair isle. Red, yellow and green are suggested on fawn ground.

Ladyship L601: Great vintage men’s socks knitting pattern from the 1930s. Lovely little booklet from a bygone age. Knitted in vintage sock wool which was similar to modern 4ply, but knitted on fine needles to give a hard wearing fabric. Knitted on 4 needles. Always work a tension square.

Patons 507MFI: Great vintage knitting pattern for men's fair isle socks, gloves and scarf - another rare find! 1940’s The set is knitted in modern 4ply on 4 needles. Always work a tension square. Suitable for the ladies too!

Patons 843: Great vintage men's sock knitting pattern from 1940s. There are three designs, a rib with French heel and flat toe, diamond pattern with auto heel and flat toe and a the stocking stitch one with French heel and flat toe. all knitted in vintage 3ply, try modern 4ply but always work a tension square as these are knitted in finer needles than you would expect to give a firm but flexible fabric. Knitted on 4 needles.

Patons 861: Great vintage knitting pattern for men's socks from the 1940s. This was the time when every woman and girl knitted sock! There are 4 different styles here. A rib with Dutch heel and round toe, stocking stitch pair with auto heel and round toe and another stocking stitch pair with French heel and flat toe, and lastly a rib pair with French heel and flat toe. I find the auto heel easiest. All are knitted on 4 needles and in 4ply. Always work a tension square.

Scotch Wool Shop 6: Vintage knitting pattern for  men's ribbed or plain socks 1930s. Knitted Comforts for Seafarers, produced by the Ladies Guild, knitted garments for men a sea, knitted in 4 needles in vintage 4ply and double, knitting knitted on small needles to give thick, firm fabric to keep out the cold and damp. Always work a tension square.

Sirdar 1159: Great vintage knitting pattern for men's Argyll socks from 1940s. They are knitted on 2 needles in vintage 3ply. Try tension square with modern 4ply.

SS49-2-5: Great vintage knitting pattern mens socks 1949. There are instructions for a smart, warm pair of socks worked in vintage sock wool which would be similar to todays modern sock wool, just work a tension square and change needles to get the correct tension of 9 stitches and 11 rows to an inch on size 12 (2.75mm). They are worked on 4 needles, foot and length are adjustable. If made a bit longer and the cuff turned over they would make good walking or shooting, sport socks with the cable design.

Weldons11-14w2: Great vintage knitting pattern for men's cable socks. Great for the Service men. Warm and snug. To fit 10.5 foot, but adjustable, leg 18 inches. 4 needles.

Weldons 313-12sox: Great vintage men's cycling socks knitting pattern from 1940s. These trendy socks are knitted in double knitting wool and on 4 needles. Chart for the man on a cycle at top of sock which is swiss darned - or embroidered over the exsisting stitches - very easy to do. Could be used to decorate  plain double knit jumper as well or the back of plain gloves or ends of a scarf. Length of foot 11 inches, adjustable.

Bow Tie 451: Fabulous little knitting pattern from early 1900's for silk bow tie. This tie is knitted in silk on very fine needles imperial 19 (1mm) I can obtain this size if needed. No clue to silk size, but probably 40 or 60 cotton might work as well or baby sock silk.

Hemingway Ties -1: This lovely, very rare vintage book comes from the USA in the early part of the 20th century, possible before the First World War, no date. The instructions are for silk ties crocheted in 9 designs. Conversion chart for hook given, work tension square to see what size silk was used, probably quite a fine one, experiment and have fun with these patterns. Could also be worked in cotton or yarn.
