Bairnswear 422MS: Great vintage knitting pattern 1930s socks. This is ideal knitting pattern for those who prefer 2 needles rather than 4. Four designs to fit 10, 10.5 and 11 inch foot. Leg length can be adjusted as can the foot length. Leg lengths between 13.5 and 14.5 inches. Bestway 753: Great vintage men's sock knitting pattern from 1940's wartime. These were made to have the foot part easily replaced to save money and coupons. Knitted on 2 needles, in two different thicknesses. vintage thick 3ply similar to modern 4ply and a thick 4ply that is the same as modern double knitting. It is recommended that you use double pointed needles although only 2 are needed. Foot adjustable 10, 10.5 and 11 inches stated. Re-footing instructions given.

Bestway 1164: Carpet slippers made from carpet yarn. From the late 1930's this pattern has 6 designs for crochet slippers children's and adults - pre-made soles are suggested, but with a little ingenuity soles can be crochet, made from felt, use old slippers or shoes for shape of sole. Great for that Christmas surprise!

Bestway 1246: Fabulous men's slipper pattern from the 1940's, although ready made soles are used, they can be home made from felt or crochet or knitted or even cork can be used, or ready made insoles. I do believe Coats, see links pages, still do them. , there are knitted and crocheted designs in this pattern to fit sizes 8, 9, 10, 11 knitted in various yarn, alway work a tension square to see if hook or needles need changing. This would make a great project for next Christmas - something very different and practical!

Greenock 59: Great vintage men's golfing stockings 1930s. This pattern has instructions for fashionable long socks or stockings for golfing. In the 1920s and 1930s this was the GAME and every young man played and so did many women. These smart long socks look great with the plus fours that were worn (trousers that were tight around the knee and lower leg - plus fours or cut off at the knee and fastened with a strap just below the knee- plus twos.) Plus fours were worn for most shooting, hunting and other men's sports at the time. (still are in some places) These stockings are knitted in vintage 4ply so try modern 4ply and change needles if needed. Worked on 4 needles (this is a lot easier than it sounds)

A rib with Dutch heel and round toe, stocking stitch pair with auto heel and round toe and another stocking stitch pair with French heel and flat toe, and lastly a rib pair with French heel and flat toe. SS49-2-5: Great vintage knitting pattern mens socks 1949. There are instructions for a smart, warm pair of socks worked in vintage sock wool which would be similar to todays modern sock wool, just work a tension square and change needles to get the correct tension of 9 stitches and 11 rows to an inch on size 12 (2.75mm). Hemingway Ties -1: This lovely, very rare vintage book comes from the USA in the early part of the 20th century, possible before the First World War, no date. The instructions are for silk ties crocheted in 9 designs. Conversion chart for hook given, work tension square to see what size silk was used, probably quite a fine one, experiment and have fun with these patterns. Could also be worked in cotton or yarn.
