Bestway 73: Vintage wartime knitting patterns. 1940's Service Woollies for Sailors, Soldiers and Airman. Great bit of social history. Great patterns to keep the service men warm during the Second World War. Bairnswear 430MG: Great vintage knitting pattern mens gloves 1930s. This is a good pattern for knitting gloves. There are 4 different designs, styles 1 and 2 are on 2 needles and the 3 and 4 are on 4 needles. One pair is knitted in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply and the others are in vintage 4ply so try modern double knitting, always work a tension square and remember that the needle sizes a old imperials not modern metric.

Bestway A2507M: Great vintage knitting pattern mens scarf 1940s. This is a super pattern - two simple scarf designs to keep the man in your life cosy this winter. One is in vintage 3ply so try modern 4ply, the other one is in fine 2ply so try modern 3ply, but you can always use double knitting - you will need more yarn if you do this, where it says 2oz of vintage 2ply or 4oz of vintage 4ply wool (60g or 120g) you will need at least 300g of double knitting, depending how long you want the scarf. There is also a pattern for gloves on the back.

Secil 392: Great vintage knitting patten for men's scarf and gloves from 1940s. This pattern has instructions for a scarf in a simple brick stitch and measures as long as you wish there is a suggestion that 1oz (30g0 will knit 8 inches in length - I have not tried this but it is easy to work out, just allow a bit more or knit until you have used the wool allowed. They suggest 5oz (150+g) and the scarf should be about 10 inches wide. The gloves are to fit an average hand and there are plain or patterned. Modern 4ply should work. pdf £1.50 |

SS39-10-20M: Great vintage knitting pattern mens scarf and gloves 1939. This is a good pattern for those of you who have wool to use up or a man who needs keeping warm outside. A rimple wool is used, colour suggest bright blue! Rimple is no longer available but a similar boucle texture can be found or knit in plain 4ply or double knitting. The scarf measures 56 inches long and 10 inches wide. Gloves are made to match. A nice chunky rib is used for the scarf.
