PS32-94uw: Great vintage ladies knitting pattern for underwear from late 1930s, early 1940s. This set of vest and panties is smooth, well fitting and elegant. Probably knitted in a 3ply wool for smooth lines and less bulk, always work a tension square. To fit 36 inch bust.

 Patons 101uw: Great vintage ladies cami-knickers knitting pattern 1940s. This set had nice close fitting top to fit 32 inch bust with lace panels, the waist is ribbed for nice fit and the knickers are of the French style, with buttoned gusset. Knitted in vintage 2ply, so try modern 3ply - it is always best to knit underwear in pure merino wool (available from Patons) or pure cashmere or a wool blend , this gives a nice fit and the required warmth. These were so warm, my mother wore them on duty in the bitter winter under her uniform in the WAAF during the war.

Patons 131uw: Great vintage vest and knickers knitting pattern 1940s 1940s. This set is to fit 34 inch bust and the length of vest and leg of knickers is adjustable. Knitted in vintage vest wool which was a light high loft (not tightly twisted) wool and similar to modern 4ply. Always work a tension square and change needles if needed.

Patons 3117uw: Great vintage ladies set of underwear, vest and knickers from 1930s. This set is knitted in a vintage 2ply, if you use modern 3ply it should work out well. Always work a tension square and change needles if needed.  To fit 34 inch bust. Very neat and snug even under fitting clothes - ideal for a chilly winter.

PUW538: Great vintage ladies vest knitting pattern from 1940s. There are three different designs of vest in this pattern to fit 32 inch bust, warm, snug and neat under clothing with long line and ribbed waist for cosiness. Make a bit shorter for wearing under slacks or jeans. There is a round neck modern 3ply - fabric will stretch in wearing to give a close fit. An opera top, with ribbon straps and a V neck. For bigger size try 4ply, but allow more wool if you do this.

Pearsalls 378: Great vintage ladies knitting pattern for vest and knickers from 1940s. This pattern has instructions for a pretty opera top vest with ribbon straps and well fitting knickers with slim legs and neat waist in fine rib. To fit average woman.. Yarn used was a rayon or mixed rayon, so similar to silk blend, but most 4ply yarn will work - always work a tension square. Try modern merino for extra warmth.

Penelope 1277uw: Fabulous vintage knitting pattern 1940s ladies underwear cami-knickers to fit 34 inch bust. The pattern suggest RAYON with was a silky shiny synthetic yarn, probably of a 3 or 4ply thickness. There are similar on the market today, Bamboo and synthetic silk or you could use real silk or modern pure wool. Try a tension square in what ever yarn you choose and change needles until you get the desired size. This little garment is easy to knit and shape with ribbon straps, the rib waist makes it a bit flexible for size, and leg length can be adjusted to be a bit shorter. These were also known as step- ins for obvious reasons.

RM2-59uw: Great vintage knitting pattern for pair of ladies combinations from early 1930s. This is a pattern from a book left to me by my grandmother many years ago. She had made this set for herself many times, and for my mother when she was in RAF as a Christmas present one year. This is knitted in a fine 2ply yarn so try a tension square on size 12 needles in modern 3ply and see if you in fact need modern 2ply. A bit labour intensive, but well worth the effort, the back is very low - great retro evening wear. To fit up to 40 inch bust.

Sirdar 1029uw: Great vintage knitting pattern 1940s ladies underwear sets knitted in vintage 2ply, so try modern 3ply in a tension square and treat yourself to some super soft luxury this winter. To fit 34 inch bust, try modern 4ply and size larger needles for larger size but do allow more wool if you do this. One set has the fuller French knicker style and pretty bra top to the vest and the other one has simpler close fitting lines,  these were recommended for under uniforms during the war.

Spider186uw: Great vintage ladies vest knitting pattern from 1940s. the vest on the front cover is to fit  38 inch bust,. the one shown here is to fit 32-34 inch bust. Both are knitted in a a fine 3ply for less bulk on larger needels than usual for the ply. Always work a tension square.

Stitchcraft 58uw: Great vintage ladies cami-knicker knitting pattern from lat 1930s. This pretty cami-knicker is neatly fitted and in a pretty flower lace stitch. The band of ribbing grips at the waist and the flare at the hips is both flattering and and fashionable for the time. The original wool used had a silky feel and knitted to a 3ply tension. A wool blend will work well, but keep to the fine ply as that is what makes thes undies so elegant.

SS39-10-9uw: Great vintage ladies underwear knitting pattern 1939. This is a pattern for an elegant, but warm set of underwear including vest with wide straps and long leg pants. Worked in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply in a tension square, lovely diamond design to fit 38-40 inch bust, knickers 40-42 inch hips. Waist to crutch is adjustable as is the leg length. Easy pattern even a chart is supplied to help.

SS41-1-16uw: Great vintage knitting pattern for set of underwear 1941. This design for knickers and vest are so neat and slim fitting that they will provide warmth a smooth line under winter clothes. Pretty chevron top and edge to panties. To fit 32-36 inch bust. A fine merino 4ply wool or a 3ply baby wool should be nice. Always work a tension square and change needles if needed.

These finer wools or synthetic yarns give a neater finish and are not too bulky under other clothing. SS44-9-4uw: Great vintage knitting pattern for undies from World War 2. This little cami-knickers from 1944 is knitted in vintage 2ply, but try modern 3ply in an tension square. Slim fitting and figure hugging to keep you warm without bulk. Shaped top with ribbon straps.

SS45-89-5uw: Great vintage ladies vest and panties knitting pattern from 1945. This little set is knitted a vintage 2ply, so try a modern 3ply. Figure hugging and warm for a chilly winter. This fine knitting causes no bulky outlines and although the knickers seem old fashioned they are slimming on the hips and leave no visible lines under trousers or jeans, if knitted in the fine wool or yarn. To fit 35-37 inch bust and 38-40 hips.

SS46-10-9uw: Pretty vintage knitting pattern for ladies vest and French knickers from 1946. This set is knitted in a fine 2ply this should be similar to modern 3ply. These fine yarns give warmth without bulk and are well worth the effort. With pretty lacy pattern at edges, this one is so easy to knit in stocking stitch. To fit 32-35 inch bust and 35-38 inch hips. Work in 4ply for bigger size, but allow a little more wool. They suggest peach wool with white for the lacy trim. Vest is so easy with straight top and ribbon straps and the knickers have the barest of shaping. So pretty and so typical or the time.

SS47-10-11uw: Very pretty underwear set knitting pattern from 1947. There are instructions for vest and knickers with contrast at wast and edges. So pretty, shown here in blue and white but peach and white of pink and white would be just as pretty. To fit 32-36 inch bust knitted in 3ply.

SS48-11-5: Great vintage underwear knitting pattern pants and vest 1948: This is a lovely pattern for super snug vest and knickers for those chilly days. Great for wearing under ski gear! Worked in vintage 2ply so modern 3ply will work better, try a tension square and change needles to get the correct tension. To fit 34-36 inch bust and 37-39 inch hips. The pattern is a classic underwear twisted rib, that gives the impression of a fine cable.

SS49-1-2: Great vintage knitting pattern ladies underwear 1949. This super pattern is for a rather chic set of undies! Knitted in fine vintage 2ply- so try modern 3ply in a tension square. The pattern is a tiny check in pink and white, very feminine. Knitted on small needles to provide a firm fabric to keep the drafts out. To fit 33-35 inch bust and 35-37 inch hips. Try knitting in 4ply for a larger size, but remember you will need more yarn if you do this.

Viyella 2462: Great vintage  ladies snug undies knitting pattern from 1930s. This sleek set is in a wide rib with fine ribbed waist for that slimming look and nice wide shoulder straps trimmed with eyelets and ribbon. To fit 34 inch bust and knitted in a vintage 3ply, try a modern 3ply and a modern 4ply in a tension square and see which give the best tension.

VY5-85uw: Great vintage ladies underwear knitting pattern from 1930s. This set comprises of a vest with bra top and panties with longer legs. Knitted in vintage 2ply that knits as modern 3ply to give warmth without bulk. No bust measurements give, but hips are 34 inches so I would estimate a 32-34 inch bust. Try a size lager needles for a slightly larger fit, but allow a little more wool if you do. Always work a tension square

Weldons 34uw: Great vintage ladies vest knitting pattern 1920s. This super pattern has two designs the one shown with fancy rib to fit 34 inch bust and the ribbed waist give snug fit. The other one has a crochet brassiere (bra) top and plain stocking stitch body to fit 32-34 inch bust. Vintage 3ply wool and silk blend is suggest, so try modern 4ply of the same or pure cashmere or merino wool - avoid modern Shetland wool against the skin as is is not as soft or smooth as merino and cashmere. You can make the vest shorter for a more modern feel.

These have a button gusset and pretty lacy design, to fit 32-35 inch bust knitted in vintage 2ply baby wool, so try modern 3ply baby wool - pure wool or cashmere is warmest and has more stretch than synthetic yarns., pretty ribbon top and neat close fitting legs with all over pattern and shaped snug waist. This pattern is in blackberry stitch at the top and slim fitting stocking stitch for the panties to fit 32-34 inch bust and is worked in vintage 2ply so try modern 3ply in a tension square and change needles if needed. Buttons at the gusset, legs can be made shorter, or just a cami top or vest can be made with this pattern.
